Gosh! What am I going to do with this Dagor lens ?!

Happy new year to all LF sifu.

My itchy fingers got me into trouble recently - (accidentally) won a funny lens called (C P Goerz Dagor f6.8 300mm) at the Bay. I really really did not expected my bid amount of EUR 139.88 to win but...oh well.

Now that the lens is in the mail and reaching me in the next 48 hours, I'm wondering if I can put it to any good use. If so, how?

Here is how it looks:

This is what the seller said of the Dagor lens:

"This lens is in Top conditions, lenses are pretty clear and without scratches or fungi.
It comes mounted on a heavy metal plate including a shift excursion mechanism,
a yellow filter on the back and the possibility to rotate the lens in 4 positions.
It can be unmounted from the plate and adapted to be used on your large format camera."

If any Dagor users out there know HOW to adapt it to be used on LF camera, I would be thrilled to learn from you. Thanks.

looks like it came off a reproduction/process camera. The shutter is in the metal lensboard.
Just remove the lens elements and mounting flange and mount into another lensboard.
However it would be just be a barrel lens with no shutter. Depending on what you shoot and what camera u have, you have a few options
1. use a lens cap as shutter for long exposures
2. use a camera with a focal plane shutter like the speed graphics.
3. use a Packard shutter
4. send it off for remounting into a modern shutter (check out SK Grimes)

Thanks for the tips.

I managed to take out the lens from the metal plate. It looks like this:

The lens doesn't have a retaining ring and the lens cells do not fit into any copal shutters.
Getting SK Grimes to remount it would be great if not for the very high cost

Look like I would have to somehow mount it onto a 4x4 lens board and try the black-hat "shutter" method and see if it works well. Should be fun.

Wooden lensboard? just cut a good fit hole and squeeze in the lens. Should hold up pretty well. have fun!

Just use the lens cover as shutter. The rest can don't bother. Working app is f22-f45. you still can open full or stop down to 128.

found out that the Dagor lens module can just screw onto an old Compound shutter that comes with a 21cm Heliar lens!

Since the compound shutter is working fine, I can shoot properly with it now. The image formed on the GRAFLEX's GG looks delicious.
It's time to get some 4x5 B&W negatives from 淘宝...

I normally fix the shutter in front of the lens... because the image circle might sometimes get cropped especially when the focal length is short. 210mm on 4x5 should be OK.

Ya, I was concerned about possible vignetting initially. Upon testing however, it shows no sign of vignette on the Graflex, not even on a 8x10 screen. Lucky indeed.
By the way, this lens is 300mm f6.8. Should make a great portrait lens on 4x5 or 5x7.

You need to check the length of your bellow extension.

No problem. Close range to infinity all good, no dark corners.
