GoPro HERO vs POSH SJ4000 (Wi-Fi)

I'm looking for an entry level Action Camera.

Based on Video and Photo Quality, which one will you choose?

GoPro HERO or POSH SJ4000 (Wi-Fi)

I'm sure many people will prefer the colors from the SJ4000 but still buy the GoPro for it's ecosystem of accessories.
If only SJ4000 had cloned the Gopro down to the very last detail and dimension.

^thanks.

But based on Video and Photo quality alone, do you think the SJ4000 can go head to head with the GoPro HERO?

Not only can the SJ4000 go toe-to-toe with the entry level GoPro Hero, it can hold it's own against a Hero4 Silver

SJ5000 is already released if you guys haven't heard.

SJCam too costly.
I heard support from the factory is not as good.

Saw in the facebook POSH has new model that is the same size factor as gopro 4
Saw many SJCAM fake in china. Now they have new holograms in the packing.
But again holograms mean nothing to stop importer to bring in the fake cam to increase their profit.

SJ4000, POSH and SJCAM use the same accessories as Gopro.
So don't worry about the accessories issue.

Have you ever wondered who makes POSH cameras?

SJCAM is made by Shangou, who also manufacture the same cams for many other companies. Yes, I do agree it is overpriced in Singapore compared to buying them in China. You can always use taobao.

Hi

I think, you got it all wrong.
I have follow up and read the issues in other forums.
This is I think what I know.

SJCAM is originally "own" (As they claim initially) and marketed by VIOFO LTD.
SJCAM is originally made by SZ Hongfeng Century Technology LTD and it still made by Hongfeng. I never heard about shangou before.
Hongfeng do not have brand marketing initially and they sell their camera under SJ4000 name.
POSH initial camera was made by Hongfeng.

Since SJCAM take off well last August 2014 and i recall they accused all camera are fake except SJCAM even though POSH was launch earlier. Hongfeng decided to take back the brands. and Accused SJCAM is fake or Viovo is fake.
I read the war exchange in RCGroup forum.
It is not surprising how china company work. Never believe in their words and promises. If they can do this to the internal partners, I don't think they can service their customer well.

Now hongfeng created new website called SJCAM HD.
http://sjcamhd.com/

If you go to Viovo link below who own SJCAM they have admitted they work with hongfeng.
http://www.sjcam.com/en/content/4-about-us

I believe with all these fiasco, POSH Decided to abandon them and work on their own design and oem.
Their Jet S is made by USA and HK design company called Silver Creation who pioneered the Bullet Style action camera.

I hope the above explain little bit about the action camera brands here.
For the SJ6000 I have not seen one produced by SJCAM or Hongfeng.
Unless copy which are abundant out there. I have seen my friends bought SJCAM fake in CHINA :bsmilie:

For me stick to local brands as they have warranty support.

Feel free to correct me if my comments are not right or accurate.
I would like to learn more and know more. :)

In China who accuses who, who say what, all can discount. But you know they all use the same motherboards and chipsets right? Because the suppliers are all the same. The only difference is the lens assembly. Just like the mobile phone industry in China back a few years back.

Your local warranty is SG. My local warranty is China. So it really depends what you mean by local warranty. And for prices this low, my time is more precious than going back and forth for a warranty claim. Price of the set is only 2-3 taxi rides.

hi moderator

not trying to create a debate here.
Just would like to share what I read in other forum.

I agree with you all use same motherboard and chipset but SJ4000 model has 4 different chipset now.
Novatek, Sunplus, Icatch and AIT (ATI)
I don't want to go into detail which is good or bad as this is entry level camera I find quality is about there.

As for who accuse who.... it was very open and clear last year that Viovo (SJCAM) accuse every SJ4000 outside is fake except theirs.
It was a joke then as they themselves oem from Hongfeng.

AS for the warranty I prefer local support, if anything wrong with my camera I know where to go for exchange.

BTW Hongfeng is also known as shangou... shangou is chinese short form of "Fake Go-pro". So in actual fact, everyone except Go-pro is fake. Most units out there in China now is on AIT chipset.

Now I'm confused...

I was looking at the POSH Camera sold by Challenger...

Is it the same camera that can go head to head with a GoPro?

I watched some video reviews of go pro vs sjcam. The dynamic range of the go pro is much much better. For that alone, I'm sold on the go pro.

I stick to Gopro for their 25/50p. Not many action cam shoots in PAL framerates.

Sorry... I'm confused... Do I get SJCAM or POSH?

SJCAM

AFAIK.
I first bought a local set of the original SJ4000.
Thereafter, there were quite a few SJ4000 from other manufacturers (different chipset, addition features, etc)
The microUSB on my set was not sturdy enough for my usage and I had to send it in for repairs.
As the repair took sometime, I decided to buy another set.
The original SJ4000 was no longer available as it was rebranded as SJCAM SJ4000.
The only visual differences I could make out is the SJCAM sticker and upgraded firmware.
When I got back the repaired set, the firmware was also upgraded.
I took a look at the manufacturer's website, their products now has the SJCAM brand name.

IMHO, I feel that the manufacturer did not anticipate the success of the SJ4000.
They are unlikely to be able to get an IP using SJ4000 but possible with SJCAM.
Perhaps there will be less other SJ4000s if they had use SJCAM in the first place.
