I don't... unless it comes bundled with a professional videographer and video editor as well. With the right tools and accessories and experts, the same promotion video can be done for any video camera. Then again I'm not a video person and can't take a proper video to save my life and that's why my GoPro Hero 3 which I had bought after being so 'impressed' by their promotional video at the time, is gathering dust in my dry cabinet.

I remember the hero3 video, easily lulled into thinking "Whoah, that's so cool, if I buy a GoPro, I can shoot stuff like that..." When the fact is that most of us may end up shooting mundane things... cos how many of us get to shoot thrill-seekers deep sea diving, mountain climbing or surfing?? We forget that it's the nature of the activity that makes a lot of gopro footage so compelling to watch. It's one reason I haven't bought one, even though the marketing tugs strongly at my heart to make me think I need one :bsmilie:

The GoPro HERO3 launch video was the biggest undertaking in GoPro media history. It also required the most resources of any project we’ve done thus far. We started planning the video in early June but were at a standstill until we could get working prototype HERO3 units. We made a decision to base most of the filming out of Queenstown New Zealand due to the close proximity to good snow, surf, kayak, and diving.

By mid august we had working cameras and a firmware that worked well enough to film with. We didn’t have ProTune or some of the modes in the camera, but we reached the critical cut off time to create a video in time for launch. A team of about 10 media folk from GoPro jetsetted across the world to Queenstown to set up camp.

Next up was the task of putting it all together. The editing process couldn’t have been done without the help of our resident loggers Sam Lazarus, Matt Linn, and Justin Whiting. They were on-site in NZ pulling selects as soon as footage came in. They logged all of our raw videos and prepped all the important moments into timelines in Final Cut so we could see the flow of shots for each vertical. Jordan Miller and I took to the edit bay back at homebase and worked on cutting the video down day by day. We had about 4 weeks to edit and 1 week to work on post production.

The edit process on big videos like this has a lot of input from the higher-ups at GoPro – mainly the CEO, Nick Woodman. He sat in twice a week to look over the progress of the cut and guided our eventual direction. Once Jordan and I finished off the cut I went clip by clip cleaning up any imperfections in After Effects. I took the video into Davinci Resolve to do final coloring. I hadn’t used Resolve until this project so I watched a few tutorials, drank some Red Bull, and locked myself in our edit suite. 4 days later, the video was finished. BAM.

Strangely, I can't remember why I bought my GoPro Hero 3. But I remember my first outing. I strapped it to my scooter and rode around the neighborhood just for fun. Since then however, I found many use for it and now in fact, I find that having just one is not enough.
• It has replaced my DLSR at the end of a jib. With the go pro, no counterweight is needed.
• It is the only camera that works with my DJI Phantom Zenmuse stabilizer
• It is the only camera calibrated for use with many one-hand operated 3-axis gimbaled stabilizer
• Its lens is wide enough to take in an entire stage placed just a few feet in front
• Its small enough for motion time-lapse on an egg timer
• Its a great snoricam

The Hero3 does have its drawback that I hope will be fixed in future iterations:
• Battery life sucks - 40 minutes with the LCD back
• No manual exposure control
• Poor low light performance
• Zero mounting option on the body alone
• Buggy in protune mode.
• Hangs sometimes.

Interesting pointers.

I bought the Hero 3+ because of the future possibilities it gave. I have tried it on motocross, diving, surfing. All with poor or negative effect. The color comes out yellow. The buttons and navigation all awkwardly placed.

I just hope that some company can improve on this. There is certainly a market for small, adventure cam

I bought the Hero 3 BE after selling off my Hero 2. Used it mostly for in car shots, timelapse and aerial videos. I would probably get the 4 for the same activity.

Prices of $560 & $710, in order to buy a decent GoPro, I personally felt is too costly..
Those $400 plus and below, produce not so nice video shots..!
