Goodbye Nikkor

In your marvellous wit (not), you have inadvertently exposed a major failing of G lenses. Thank you! :bsmilie:

I remember that your liege (espn) used to wax lyrical about the 50 f1.8 D and how one could do Macro by just using a reversing ring. How are people going to do that now eh? :)
Like YOU said - use sticky tape? Then you would have to estimate how much to lift the blades by. Oh you are SOOOO cluey. (did you get the tongue-in-cheek undertone in this post?) :bsmilie:

I apologise to the TS for having gone OT and for this post.

This is my last remark to Tetrode on this matter:

I forgot your propensity for being rude and getting personal, not to mention vulgar, when it comes to your favorite topic. If I was to persist in replying to your posts and history repeats itself, you'll just start bellowing again, so I'll just stop and remember not to respond to you again.

Regards.

I think the BR-2A (?) comes with another ring that fits on the F mount side to open up the aperture, does it? I don't know because I haven't used it before.

The BR-2A is used to reverse-mount the lens to the camera. I believe you're referring to the BR-3 which is used to allow the photographer to attach filters and other gadgets to the rear of the lens. This however does not control the lens' aperture.

Cheers

You cannot stop down the lens to the appropriate aperture if you don't have an aperture ring.

You've already admitted that you started it remember? (your 'tongue-in-cheek' comment). At least I haven't forgetten what I've said in the past and actually think through what I am arguing about/on.

You on the other hand have just admitted twice that the G lenses have less to offer (as opposed to AF-D lenses) than you and your former crony (espn) used to champion so fervently.

Thanks again for confirming once again that G lenses are unable to be used in reverse thus limiting their versatility further.

I'll give you a 10 for your backflip. [Applause]

Oh - I don't expect an answer to this post - you already said you would stop in your last. :)

Thanks DP and Tetrode. Yes, the aperture cannot be controlled if it's a G lens :(. I later realised from the later post that your concern is stopping down the aperture which indeed is important when shooting macros. :)

The thing is that when you reverse-mount a G lens, the aperture is already stopped down all the way. It's when you need to open it up that you'll find trouble.

Yeah.. That's why I thought there was a ring that can be attached on the mount side to open up the aperture all the way with the BR-2A. :)

those are Manual Nikkors la. not non-D AF versions. :bsmilie:

more new Nikkors coming!!! all G lenses... starting with the new 50mm f1.8G.
Then cannot do reverse mount to become macro lens liao. :(

Nope it doesn't. :(

seems like nikon has made some mistake on the announcement on the discontinuation of the 50mm F1.8D. They have since removed the D. In other words, only the non-D will be discontinued & the D version will still be in production:thumbsup:

:sweatsm: the non-D lenses were discontinued ages back when the D versions were announced.

i bet they made a mistake somewhere along the line.

AFS50 f1.8G is on its way.
