It's time for me to say: Please see my signature! ;)

for me now... only have 10-22 and 24-105mm

I think I need a 150mm or 180mm Marco lens to complete. or if I have extra cash, 70-200 F2.8 IS will be good.

But the biggest issue I face now is, I do not have a canon body yet... (currently on loan from a good frz of mine)

u need the sigma SD14 or SD15(sorry not familiar) to complete:thumbsup:

SD15 ;)
But I'm not interested in Sigma body :nono:. Actually collecting Sigma lenses also not my intention. Only purchase after purchase, realized that my setup are Sigmas.
Now I’m aiming prime lenses, want to try Leica or Zeiss (I don’t mind manual focus).

OK thanks guys for the tip. got a rough idea of what to look out for already. :) cheers

I thought that a good line of EF lenses to get will be:
a) F2.8 setup - EF 16-35 F2.8L & EF 70-200 F2.8L
b) F4 setup - EF 17-40L & EF 70-200 F4L

Hello, since you're using 500D, why not get some EF-S lenses?

1) EF-S 10-22 USM
2) EF-S 17-55 IS USM
3) EF-S 55-250 (or EF 70-200 F4 IS )

My setup actually, save the last one. :D Not too shabby.

I was quite curious how come no one post Marco lens to complete the line? I think I am the only who mention marco lens

Macro lens is a specialized lens, if want to go macro, I rather use MPE 65....really macro, I simply love that lens when it is paired with MT-24EX.

I guess we can capitalise on our existing lens to do macro by adding a 25mm extension tube or a close-up filter. But personally I'm not a macro guy so I've never tried that before.
Anyone can advise if adding an extension tube or macro lens is a good alternative? This will save cost and hassle of getting a dedicated macro lens isn't it?

When I was a newbie, I use 50mm f1.8 for almost one year, on the old EOS D30. After that, I got myself a Sigma 500 flash to learn flash control. I did not purchase lens until I fully understand the basis of photography.

I don't advise newbie to purchase anymore equipment and overload themselves with so many options and accessories. Learn to fully utilise and overcome the limitation with what you have and only purchase 1 piece of equipment at one time

yup i agree...

I have learn abt this MP-E65, very interesting... but it a little too short ya... FOV is quite important actually

It's not the focal length that's of concern as it's meant to take REALLY close up pics at a max of 5:1!!! :)

Have to go to the shops and have them order for you.... most shop won't keep stock for such a specialized lens. When I ask MS about the 180mm Macro.... they said it would take a day or two to get it. And I'm not sure whats the price.

180? Tamron or Canon?

heard from frz that Tamron 180 3.5 is quite an amazing lens. I might get one since I have already have Sigma 150mm for 4/3

Yes it's still being sold in shops such as CP. The last time i asked quite some time back, was around $1.6K. Now not sure about the current price.
