Give me some good reasons to.....

U don't need a reason.. just go out and buy Minolta Dynax 5D.

If you really needs reasons, here is my opinion...
1. Cheaper.
2. Quality is similar "if" not better than Nikon or Canon
3. ANTI-SHAKE in every lenses... Not all NIKON or CANON has IS/VR
4. Most lenses are much cheaper than N or C...

True that the lenses availability is lesser than N or C, but what else do you need? Minolta has 16mm to 600mm...

N or C has much better lens choice, but problem is CAN U AFFORD THEM?

Once again... its not the gear, but the photographer...

I have not regret one single moment when I choose to use Minolta.

don't worry about lens price. USM lens are much cheaper than SSM, if you decide to buy them. and also easy to get rental gears for C and N. of coz sulhan can share with you which minolta lens without SSM focus the fastest. 5D is real cheap. and good. i have no problems with generating good outputs with minolta gears, just the support is real problematic.

Well, someone show me his shots of B/W IR taken by sony cameras and i'm quite impress with the output. He says it's taken in niteshot mode...yea...I don't need all lens, you are right...i'm going to take pics sample from both cameras and try out. but minolta really break my heart...esspecially after the merger...seems like all they want is to cut cost only...showroom gonna move house also...hahaha...me sad to see the showroom gone...people who know me long enough knows what i'm talking about...

Today, the cost of buying lens is still the reason why I will pick minolta again.
In the past, minolta selling point was having autofocus motor in the camera body, that is
why the KM lens is cheaper in general. I think today KM also have high end lens that include
the autofocus motor in the lens.

I think 5D is very low cost, if 5D was released in May 05, I would get 5D instead of 7D.
With the S$1K saving + some top up I can get another good lens or flash.

Again, if one has no budget constrain. You can get C/N/M all in your camera bag and highend lens to do all your shooting need.

If budget is a contrain, you will realize that to get AS in the lens, you fork out big
dollar for that and for every single lens.

Also I will say today, I NEED the very expensive high end minolta lens like the 300mmf2.8, but I CAN'T AFFORT THEM.

Should the body be the main influence when buying a new system?

actually, i am interested in Canon CMOS sensors and the mass produce USM motors. Glass and coating please use back original minolta one. I am comfortable with cxprocess 3 (really produce stunning colours as what sulhan describe) and ergonomics of Minolta. now that sony and minolta collabrate, hope to have better products in the market by them.

Canon's CMOS is pretty good actually, CMOS uses less power than CCD.

buy the EOS 1D. legendary and highly recommended

nah, that technology is a bit old, and very noisy at ISO 800 already.

Example of AS in action. Not a very good one but shows the versatility of it. Image been sharpened vis PS tho.

ISO800, F5.6. 1/50s, 280mm(420mm after crop factor)

pict29179ix.jpg

It is also an example of how AS/IS/VR cannot stop motion too

IMO, AS/IS/VR only useful if you are shooting static object in low light condition. When u are shooting moving object, AS/IS/VR is pretty useless because the image will still blur if the person is moving.

I will rather push the ISO higher than to rely too much on AS/IS/VR, at least i can still clean up the noise using neat image, but for motion blur....there is no way u can sharpen it.

Many pple not realise that it is a bad habit to turn on AS/IS/VR at all time.

eg. Sport shooter usually turn it off because the AS/IS/VR may not be fast enough to react and work eratically, the pic may be even more blur with AS/IS/VR on.

Also, u should also turn off your AS/IS/VR when u mount the cam on tripod too, else the pic may be even more blur. For Canon, the 2nd generation IS system will detect this and turn off the IS automatically.

Today, I finally handled 5D with 18-70. The feel is quite similar with 350D. But focusing of the kit lens is really fast, closest to infinity about 1/7 turn. Built of lens not too shiok. image quality acceptable (probably limited by kit lens).

Tried it few days ago too.. I'm glad that KM put 7D's direct AF point mapping selection on 5D as well. The LCD is not as good as 7D. I did find the AF speed is quite fast too. Agree with you on the build quality.

So.. 350D or 5D??
