I was tripod hunting in Singapore recently (after a long search) and visited T K Foto Technic for the first time. I've been to most of the other well-known retailers in Singapore several times before, but not this one.

I was very impressed with the advice, service and prices. Particular thanks to James Ng.

He came across as someone who definitely knows his stuff and wants to help customers, rather than simply a salesman who wants to make a sale.

The shop has a good selection of gear and I noticed that the Markins Q3 was quite a bit cheaper than what I paid for the same model in Bangkok recently.

It's early days with the tripod but so far extremely pleased. It was more than I really wanted to pay but now I have it I'm pleased I paid the extra.

Thanks again to James at T K Foto Technic for helping me to make the right decision.

PS T K Foto Technic are currently located in Shaw Tower on Beach Road (fairly near Bugis Junction) but James informed me that they will shortly be moving to Funan.

Thumbs up for James  He is one of the friendliest salesperson I know who also knows his stuffs. Always chat with him on the upcoming Think Tank products :bsmilie:

bought my manfrotto tripod & ballhead there, good service and cheap.

Good to know that they are moving to Funan cos their current location is not so convenient (to me).

I concur. James at TKP is tops. he is the only one I get my thinktank stuffs from in Singapore as he bothers to advice, explain and guide.

If they move to Funan, it means higher rental??? means... prices heading north? Hope not...

Retail business is all about location, location, location. The increase in revenue from increase buyers due to increase traffic in Funan should be able to offset the increase in rental. In Singapore, good service alone is not enough, it will have to come with competitive price as well.

Nice to hear that there is one more shop with good reputation coming to the Funan area. No need to run around to difference places anymore.

 to james as well.

He and Uncle Phillip is the only 2 i wil lapprach for my photography equipment needs

Another  for TK. Currently is my favourite place to go when i'm back in Singapore. Prices are good and service is fantastic!

Here's hoping they will have a moving out sale...

:thumbsup:I concour!!! James is knowledgeable in all aspects of Photography related hardware. He is able to give you a sound advice of what he thinks best for your individual shooting style and requirements. Best service even if you buy a small item from him. He can even try to order the things he dun carry or no stocks at no extra costs. I rate TK Foto top in Singapore in terms of service and price.:thumbsup::thumbsup:

TK has my vote too...James.. and ..is it Richard?(the tall old guy wearing glasses)

yap it is Richard. TK has my vote too..... got all my TTK bages and items from them.....

Wow, I'm certainly not alone! Thanks everyone for your replies. I just feel disappointed that after many years of visiting Singapore, it has taken me this long to find T K Foto! I will definitely be heading back whenever I'm in Singapore.

Compared to provincial Thailand, where I live, Singapore is a better place to buy gear but so often I sense that the salesman just wants to make the sale, and doesn't necessarily want to do what is best for me. That is understandable, but it is also a short term strategy. If I buy something from a certain shop but don't feel entirely comfortable, I won't go back again.

If, on the other hand, I deal with someone like James who I feel really wants to help me I will keep going back and giving him more business. Photography tends to be a long-term hobby and people repeatedly buy gear over many years. It therefore seems to make sense as a salesman to adopt a long-term approach to selling.

Perhaps the majority of Singaporean salesman think customers are just tourists who won't be coming back anyway?

They have moved to :

Agree with TS. I had my first foray to TK Foto at their new location recently, away from the usual favourite haunts at Funan vicinity. While they may not be price kings, what they offered is very reasonable and acceptable pricing, good stock varieties, good stock levels and best of all good & sincere customer service. I would rate them top in terms of the overall shopping experience. Needless to say, I bought my lens from them.

By the way, do they allow you to test out your whole setup with their display set?

Yes, just request the salesman and he will intro the different tripods to you and let you mount it.
