Hahaha... I am referring to this ballhead... it says 486 on the webpage.

http://www.manfrotto.com/Jahia/cache/offonce/pid/2304?livid=liv2212

It's a typo... anyway the Manfrotto website like dun have 468 also... it's not listed.

from my experience hor... avoid 486 or similiar looking ballhead from manftotto for 3 reasons..
1. the ball is lubricated using grease.... if you touch the wrong part of tha ballhead.... hehehe its difficult to wash off the grease...

2. there is only 1 lever to fasten the ball... its like an on off switch.... if you not careful for sume reason, you may damage your equipment...

3. There is a big possibility of slippage.....

So in conclusion....my personally opinion is that no point saving 50-100 dollars and risk damaging your equipment.

Has to agree with you with 486 ball head, it is just a small ball head for little point and shoot camera...

468RC is quite different... it has friction control... so no slippage if you set the friction correctly.

my friend who also use 488RCO, almost every frame she took with her 100-400 is blur at 400... She complaint about the lens.. then I ask her to use her setup on my 468RC2, taken 2 second exposure for night shot, it was very very sharp...

That's interesting... cos I tried Sulhan's Makin ballhead and I could get the camera and lens to settle where I want it to point... as for sharpness I have no problems with that...

As I said, go for Markins ball head... got the M20... like new second hand, cost about 50% of the original... lucky me!!! Now I am broke..

What do you intend to use it for? If you are after heavy duty video or studio type head, 410 will be great. But for ease of use and quick action, ball head is the best.

That's of course represent my own opinion...

For quick action with long lenses, I have a 393.
The ballhead I have is a lightweight 484 which I used for my digicam.
I am looking for something in between until I get a heavy duty ballhead (and suitable tripod) when I am ready to get into telephoto primes.
Since I don't have any 3-way, I am considering the 410 for when I need precise adjustments but still being able to be released for quick adjustments. Perhaps use it for landscapes or when I want to tryout panorama.
Tks for the vote of confidence.

Cannot justify the cost... the tripod is not often used...

Yesterday went to CP to look for a tripod. About 1k to 1.2k if getting a "good" tripod with ball head. Thinking of carbon fibre series as my wife might help me to carry if we go tour.

Unless u are looking at one of those monster tripods, the midi carbon fiber tripods aren't that much lighter than the aluminium alloy ones.
