GF3 and Leica 25/1.4 Released!

hmm... dunno if I should sell my 20mm and go for the 25mm.. lose the size benefit of the 20mm pancake, but based on reviews the 25mm is silent focusing (which the 20mm is NOT) and it seems gives better bokeh.. tempting..

after i did the review, I am in the same dilemmna as you. ...still undecided whether or not to place an order.

Lol. If cheaper, then no brainer. Now must think twice. This 25mn or wait for oly 45mm. Both I want. But limited funds. : (

from Adorama, USD599, around SGD750 exclude shipment and GST.

oly 45mm is not equivalent to Zuiko High grade lens series. I am doubt it is good, at most par with Panny 20mm. Of which is far behind Summilux 25mm.
Why not getting 25mm rather than 45mm and 20mm ?

Good point. In terms of optics, the 25mm is better that the 20mm (bokeh and in colours etc). But the 20mm offers a pancake config. Good when i get my 2nd body (GF3? or maybe E-Pl3?). The 25mm would look large on the GF3. unless i keep both.. lol.. but the FL are too similar.. end of the day, i would like a set of 12mm/14mm + 20mm/25mm + 45mm/50mm primes. But now very confusing.. and with the prices, not so easy to just BBB...

Panasonic 20mm is good lah, but just not the best lens.

So far i know adorama is the cheapest, at US$599. But stock not available.
I am not awaret that any SG shop start taking the order.

It’s all relative.

When the Pana 20 1.7 and Oly 17 2.8 were the only two primes in the m4/3 world, everyone was dissing the Oly 17, saying how much sharper, better colours, better bokeh the Pana 20 had. It was the gold standard m4/3 prime then.

Now with the new kid on the block, you mark my words, suddenly perceptions of some will be that the Pana 20 1.7 sucks, not worth it, etc. etc.

Cool. I will think about it and maybe order online. :) It's easier for me as I do not have any prime yet.

Where did you read the comment above that Panny 20mm f1.7 sucks ?

I was speaking hypothetically. Already the signs of consumeristic mentality is there.

For example was in Cathay photo and overheard a person advising his friend not to buy the 20 1.7 because it's soft, and to wait for the 25 1.4

To it was funny because I've never heard anyone call the 20 1.7 soft since it was released. Too many people are too easily swept up by the latest craze these days.

Agree.. Based on comments on DPR, this same topic was discussed. The outcome seems to be (in order of sharpness)
Voightlander 25mm / 0.95 --> PanLeica 25mm / 1.4 --> Panny 20mm /f1.7 then comes all the rest. but this is based on sharpness at the centre.

Sharpness is one thing. But i seen sample shots esp from slrgear that the new panleica 25mm has quite noticeable CA at wide opened and is still around even at F8. For 20mm, the CA is definitely better at wide opened and almost completely gone when stopped down a little.

I thought the panny bodies will correct the CA in software?
