Getting started with scanning your own negatives (Seeking Advice)

Hi all.

I'm about to embark on my first film photography journey and am seeking some help with scanning my own negatives. I've looked through the web and they all show cut up film negatives which is then feed to their preferred scanners. My question is, how do i get to the cut up negatives after reeling up my film after shooting? How do i get the film out of the canister housing? Do i send them in to the lab for processing before scanning them or can i skip that altogether and get right to work after reeling in the film?

Looking forward to your answers and I hope you're kind enough to lend a helping hand to a fellow newcomer. Thank you.

You will need to process the film, after you shoot and unload them from your camera, either you send to a minilab or do it yourself if it is black and white film.

That's great. Thanks for the kind help.

Was at Sim Lim Square about a month back. A couple of shops on level 3 or 4 still stock new V600s. The price is fixed at S$448. I got my V600 from ebay.com though. Arrived about 10 days later.

I feel more inclined towards the plustek right now due to size and as a dedicated 35mm scanner. The epson scanners however provide versatility but i'm not sure i'd be moving on to larger formats soon since i just got started with film. Perhaps when i do plan on making the swap i'll just sell the plustek. I believe the plustek 8200 can also be purchased at about 400 from the bns section. Still, thanks for the tip! How much did you get the v600 from ebay for? Brand new or used?

Scanning is just like film photography, a lot of things to learn.

Roger that good sir!

I use my DSLR and m43 cameras to scan 35mm and 645 films respectively

Got a plustek 8200 recently from a bro here. Nice detail scan speed abit slow if you go for highest resolution ... But you probably want to do that only for the few great picture in the roll.

Thanks all for your kind recommendations. I will look into them to consider what's the best workflow for me is.
