Does anyone know where to buy a generic hot shoe cover, I've tried looking for the Nikon BS-1 hotshoe cover, $3 , and many places are out of it.

Thanks.

Lords...they have it there...$3.

DIY if you have the tools and skills... But how much more can you save from the $3?

Now Lords is also out of stock of the Nikon BS-1 hotshoe cover, information from one of the CS member here.

Just went to service centre, also out of stick. Have to place an order.

anyone knows if lords or anywhere got the stock now?

I've left my handphone number with Nikon Showroom to call me when they have stock of the Nikon BS-1 hotshoe cover.

So far, no call from them.

Maybe there'll be stock after the Chinese New Year.

I'm not too sure about Canon cameras, I'll update it here when there is stock at Nikon showroom.

Do buy at least two as a spare.

Aren't hotshoe covers generic?

Don't they fit all cameras? After all, (compatibility aside) you can mount just about any hotshoe flash unit on any camera with a hotshoe.

Please take note that KM/Sony hotshoe are different.

MaxPhoto in Centrepoint had them just b4 CNY. Bought one on the eve of CNY eve...

TK Foto MIGHT still have stocks, worth calling them up to try.

Can you try to improvise some from the plastic tags that the bread sellers like Sunshine or Gardenia use to indicate expiry date of the bread.

The sunshine expiry tag easily breaks.

One suggestion. Get styrene sheets from Art friend at Bras Basah, they are sold as white or transparent styrene sheets. They can be found near the brass rods.

What you do is, you trim a larger base layer to size, then superglue a slightly smaller area on top so that it fits like the generic hotshoe cover. Sand off the edges which are rough with those ladies nail file polish (the 4 different coloured ones for 4 different grits, work from no.1 to no.4 for final buffing).

Test fit to the hot shoe.

Here's an illustration of what it should look like.

Ideally you should get one that's the exact same thickness as the hotshoe side brackets but if you cannot, then layering several sheets of 0.5mm or even 1mm might help. Better to have it slightly looser then secure it with gaffer tape or even blue tac.

HTH

Just pay $3. What happened if it get stuck in your camera.

Yea, I'd recommend just buying the hot shoe cover. It's just that users here have had problems finding shops that carry stock now, and have asked about scratchbuilding one so yea.
