[ Gadget ] - Panasonic 8mm f/3.5 fisheye

It is 0.09m (0.3ft) indicated on the lens, though i really can't think of a situation i shoot that close, even nearest portrait would be like half arms length. Personally, for macro, i would go macro lens way.
I don't think anybody here was suggesting to use it as a macro lens. :D The max. magnification is far from being a macro lens.

Hmm, i certainly read it that way, although, yes the magnification is far from macro.

You're right, he wrote it but I thought he meant close-ups by saying that because his sample shots were close-ups.

Btw do you own the Samyang? Do you miss the AF sometimes or would you buy it again?

Yes, No, No ;) Hyper focusing is good enough. I don't have pany 8mm

Fully agree about the convenience of using the Samyang :p

what is hyper focusing?

hyper focus (HF) means that if you focus the lens at the HF distance, everything beyond that distance will be sharp. How to calculate that? If you have android/iphone, just search for DOF calculator there will be free apps. In fact, 1/2 of that HF distance will start to be sharp if you focus at HFD. E.g. If HFD is 1m, subjects that's 0.5m from you will be sharp to infinity. To calculate, you need to enter the camera (sensor dependent), focal length, and aperture as all this affect HFD. Then using the distance marker on lens (it's something that's not that well implemented on this lens compared to some other lenses, you can set the focusing to the HFD on distance marker on lens and just walk and shoot ard, dun change focusing anymore. ALternatively, you just test MF a nearby object about the distance of HFD and don't change focusing afterwards. In fact, I simply set to infinity for F5.6 and F8 and everything is almost sharp (wee bit off for nearer but still useable). That's so far my experience with 7.5mm and understanding of HF... I think a bit OT on this thread as it's suppose to be Panasonic 8mm ;p

Thanks Wonglp for the explaination. :)
Yes i have a Iphone, will try to download the application when i am free.
maybe you can clarify if i am right with this example.

Lens use: 50mm F1.8 OM lens

Focal length 50mm, set aperture to F8.
At the DOF Calculator, enter camera sensor, 50mm,and F8, it will give me a HFD reading (eg 10m)
Assuming the HFD distance is 10m, everything 5m and beyond from where i stand will be sharp.
Lastly, set the distance scale of my lens to 10m and i am ready to shoot at this hyper focusing.

welcome! That's correct, however I'm not sure adapted lens distance scale works for cropped sensor. For native manual lenses (Samyang 7.5 FE, voigtlander 17 & 25 f0.95) will be ok. Further to that most manual lenses have DOF scales as well to help, Samyang dun have, voigt have.

I think I am out of topic. But I just got the samyang 7.5mm lens for my olympus omd and I am not sure how to really use it? Can I use it in the aperture priority mode? Cos I do notice that my shutter speed and auto Iso will adjust accordingly to the scene.

Yeah, they should but I don't own the lens.
Where did you buy it and how much did you pay?

I went to Artworkfoto only once and they were very friendly. Anyway, it seems I have to wait a few more months for a black one again...

I was probably not happy with the lady trying to squeeze 10 bucks more from me. The guy was very nice though.

Artworkfoto still has it in black (and silver). Are they all that dusty fresh from the factory? The focus ring of the one I handled was really stiff, might consider an alternative again... :-#

Yes, A mode is good. Metering will be auto from camera. Same for panasonic bodies if you using that.
