[ Gadget ] - leica /pana 25mm 1.4

My 3rd day shooting with the lens...so far so good..only problem is the min focusing distance of abt 30cm..U can get closer with the 20mm...but otherwise no complaints..am getting use to the motor sound...had not tried mounting it on my GF1..not sure whether there will be any diff..

I went down to test the 25mm again & I'm 100% convince not getting in. The size totally put me off & also the noise when I'm trying to focus.

Thus my 5cent worth of advice is Panasonic 20mm. Save the balance $$ for either a VF or perhaps some other stuffs.

The difference is really maginal. :)

Where did you test it? Song brothers have but price more than $900 and cannot demo.

Finally got a chance to shoot both the Leica D Summilux 25mmf/1.4 (Four Thirds mount) and Leica DG Summilux 25mm f/1.4 (m43 mount) together. Here's a couple of shots, one from each lens wide-opened at f/1.4.

Looks like more background blurring on the 4/3 lens compared to the m4/3 version.

Just got the Leica DG 25 mm f1.4. Shot a few photos with it on the EP3. Seems to be fine. No funny sounds at all, the lens is quiet. The photos are all sharp and I dun see any chromatic aberrations at all. I am very happy with this lens. And it is about the same size of the 14-42 without a collapsible design and it is plastic, so its light! No concerns whatsoever.

Congrats. Glad to know that I am not the only one who have a silent lens. Maybe ours came from the same silent batch. :)

Ok I just mount the lens on my GF1 and it is perfectly silent..on my EP2..it has this motor sound before focusing...

Actually, my first impression of the 25 mm is quite good. There is no noise, its light because its plastic, and its the same size as the 14-42 kit lens. Actually, the reason why I dislike the kit lens by olympus is because it is a collapsible design and requires one other hand to deploy it and then it becomes super long when it is deployed. I know it is comparing apples and oranges here, because one is prime and one is zoom, but just saying that when in use, the 25 mm is still smaller than the 14-42 kit lens. Seems like Oly is selling me bodies, but this is the second non-Oly lens that I have bought. Hahaha!

Sharing some shots to show the colour and the bokeh of the lens in low light.

Nice shots. I like the shallow DOF, missed it dearly since I was using the kit lens.

With this kind of shots, I think you just helped a lot of people decide to buy this lens :)

Checked shops at funan, ms color and parisilk. All out of stock now. Good news is stock coming in next Wed. Price about $800.

Oly5050, our shots are tempting me to get too! I wonder if this will replace my trust panny 20mm.

This is a m4/3 lens right? Sorry for the noob question!

Yes, it is a m4/3 lens that will autofocus with your m4/3 camera.

Does this lens work well with e-pl1? Any users care to comment thx

I dunno about you, but it has replaced my 20 mm for now. Its also better for portraits than the 20 mm. The 20 mm is more of a compromise for group/portrait.

Tested this lens with the nokton 25/0.95 yesterday courtesy of an old mate, it's a very good lens, with nice bokeh and sharpness, weight and fast AF on the EP3 too. Friend tried on his EP2, it's slightly slower AF.
Agree it's good for portraits. There's slight noise but not much of a bother.
Though given a choice, my nokton stays + 20mm if i needed AF. the nokton has 0.17m close distance focusing which can be real useful.
But if given only 1 choice among this 3 lens, i will go with this PL 25/1.4 for the AF convenience. It's tempting...

Sell Sell Sell! Seriously after a while it just irks u cos the Noktor can only be used for still shots..its like half the time I cant use it, esp for events..hence I sold mine! Thank to your POISON...I think I am getting the EP3..if I can get pass my wife first...
