Sorry bro, I could not wait but picked up a original canon adapter just today as my Emolux is the sux.

Emolux is not very good unless you are desperate. The Emolux cost me 35 and the original Canon was 39 from Canon link.

The problem with Emolux is as follows. The adapter is actually too long, so when you zoom out (ie the widest) there is actually circular shadows around your pictures. The canon as I see it so far does not as it is the perfect length. Also I was worried if you add a filter at the end that the filter glass will hit the zoom lens at max position. However it fit perfectly and my hoya filter just misses the lens.

The other problem is the emolux bayonet fit is very poor. the adaptor slides around in the slot. The canon is a perfect snug fit and does not rotate at all. If you are buying it for dust protection i suggest the canon.

Perhaps owners of the lens mate can advise but after my bad experience with 3rd party adaptors i rather just stick with my plastic canon original. An its only 39 bucks!

That time when i asked the price of Canon original adpater in MS, they quoted me ard $50++ and w/o stock, that's why i LL to choose 3rd party lol...
I think i have to visit the Canon link to check out the adapter ~~

Hi, i'm currently using the Emolux as well, and assuming its the same one as yours, I'd agree that the fitting is loose, but it is still secure, nonetheless (wont fall off); as it is locked by the bayonet's latch/hook.

The Emolux i have can be separated to work for wide-angle, or for telephoto. It is made up of 2 piece that can be separated. At first I thought its a stupid design, but over time, I'm beginning to appreciate this - I can use a polarizer (filter thickness about 15mm) on the adaptor without getting vidgenetting :thumbsup: at the G9 len's widest. For experiment purposes, I even stacked a 5mm UV filter on top, and finally an IR filter (another 5mm) and still no vidgenetting at the len's widest . Not sure if the original canon adaptor could do this, because I dont have one to test with. But of course, you cant extend the lens more than half the zoom towards telephoto as it will hit the filter, unless I reconnect the "telephoto" part of the adaptor back on.

I tested the adaptor in its native form with a UV filter attached to see if the lens will hit the filter at longest telephoto, and the result is good - no touching.

Finally, just my personal opinion, but if we are going to have the adaptor attached at all times to prevent dust, might as well buy the S5 IS or something else, because it will defeat the purpose of the G9 being so compact, and nice-looking

Anybody uses a 3rd party ETTL flash with your G9? Any problems?
For my S5 IS, in most modes, except Manual, the picture looks much brighter with the built-in flash instead ?! Both comparison with flash set at mid (0) setting.
In Manual mode, when I tried full power for both internal and external flash, the external flash much brighter by a far margin.

@michy I have not tested, but I strongly suspect the emolux will not work with the canon lens add ons. You see the canon adaptor is longer than the emolux without the telephoto attachment and shorter than the emolux with the telephoto attachement. So logically if you consider focal length if it is off the original, then it will be a problem.

Sometimes it does pay to buy original!

Hi guys... this is my first post as i am a really noob in photography and today i made my first step by purchasing this nice piece of G9... tried it and quite impressed by the result (by the help of an e-book A Short Course in Canon PowerShot G9 Photography i got from shortcourses.com).

Purchased it after a little price survey and finally decided to buy one from Parisilk for SGD 790 (Inclusive of GST, with 4GB SDHC and a set of digital tool kit bag).

One thing though, i find a little defect on the LCD screen, it has a dead pixel on it and it can be a bit bothering when you're staring directly at it. What do you guys think? Should i come back to the shop and ask for a replacement or is it considered acceptable to get a dead pixel or two on the screen?

Dear all,

I bought this baby few months ago. Really very very impressed by G9's superb Image Quality. Especially shooting with RAW. :heart: this baby very much. Hee... Sometimes, before sleep.. i still pick it out from my dry cabinet, feel it, touch it, play with it for awhile then sleep. :bsmilie: (p/s: Normally i only do this to my newly purchased toy.... ) But G9 is very different....
i also love the handling of this baby...
It's a very good camera for street photography & very nice substitute of DSLR when u feel like travelling light.

LX2? LX3 is already available in market.

i know your concern regarding the length of the adaptor. But from past experiences with olympus converters (wide/tele) mounted on different brands/models of cameras, i strongly believe the lens add-ons will work without problem. AF relies on contrast detection, not focal length. need to confirm on the vidgenetting though

Means not recognised, use other program to open, not supported..

You need to download the Camera Raw plug-in from Adobe to open Raw files in Photoshop.
