ahh thx! but does it seem g10 is better than g11? 14mp compared to 10mp. other specs are pretty much the same as well. canon downgraded it?

10mp isnt considered a downgrade as they had mentioned the g11 has very good performance in low light. the noise control is gd even at ISO 1600. i think there is some changes in the sensor
anyways depending how u intend to publish the photos. on screen, 10mp and 14mp doesnt really matter much. cos i think even 5mp is good enough, as long as the image quality is sharp and colours are saturated.

glad that i am able to help. Last yr i almost wanted to get g11..
however i am not so sure whats the difference between s90 and g11. both received gd comments.
why didn't u get it? than what did you get in the end? 1000d? hahah
yup.. cos i decided since the price is around the same, and i wanted something better than just pns to see what i can do to get nice photos...plus some encouragements from friends.
and it is more of a long term thing.. lenses are interchangeable and better.

Nono. Last time I was looking at kx as it was cheaper.. But later i decided canon has more possibilities of 3rd party lenses..
Actually i also eyeing on the brand. So kx should be very gd too for the price n performnce..

Lesser megapixels doesn't necessarily mean it's a downgrade. Usually, the more megapixels you have (especially on a small sensor like these compact cameras), the worse the ISO performance, assuming all the other hardware is unchanged, as far as I know.
I have a G11 myself, and I think the dials at the top of the body for the exposure, ISO and mode settings are good in the sense that I don't need to navigate through all sorts of menus to make the changes that I want. This is my personal preference.
You said you missed some 'golden moments' in the past due to the time it took for you to navigate through menus to change settings, so maybe this may help you marginally. I think you should see how long it takes you to make the same adjustments for the two different types of cameras (one with the dials and one without) and whether it really makes a difference for you.
Another factor you may want to consider is the amount of zoom each of the camera provides. For example, the G11 provides 5.0X zoom, whereas the LX3 has 2.5X. It really depends on what you shoot. Because I just picked up photography and didn't know exactly what I wanted, I got one with a slightly longer focal range for greater flexibility.

I was also looking to upgrade from my PnS Canon IXUS 800IS (bought brand new from a forum mate here) recently and had considered G11, S90 and LX3. Also looked at SX1 and S5 and eventually bought a used S5 from a forum mate here, cos of the photo in movie function.

yea im prolly gonna go down to get some hands on before making the purchase but as of now im leaning towards g11.
i came across reviews on g10 and its not v ideal for capturing moving objects (eg: pets/babies). am kinda curious to know how does g11 fair?
btw u guys know of g11 add-ons (eg. flash/lens)? and how much roughy will they cost?
