This depends too I think... hm. Melvan and I just did an event coverage last saturday. Don't know about his shots, but I think he was using faster shutter speeds. For me, I used 1/80s, ISO 800, F4.5, FEC about -1.7 on a 24-85mm F3.5-4.5 throughout. I find that lens a cheap alternative to the 24-105L, like 20% the price, & good wide open. In anycase thats not my main point, the sad thing is that I lost quite a few spontaneous moments due to subject movement, not handshake. I didn't consider on that day that 1/80 might be too slow & didn't have time to review properly. =(

Anyway, care to share how do you usually use your settings? I was kinda struggling with finding the proper FEC that day.
Yeah, we did a event coverage, some of the shots taken on that day, i'm not really good with flash though.

Actually it depends on the camera I am using... on a FZ50, I normally use Aperture Priority & use my FL36 to control my flash coverage & output. When using the 450D, I normally use Full Manual & use the 580EX2 to suit the lighting condition. :)

Nice work Melvan, the last photo is there a lttle bit of hand movement blurr near the flowers?
Otherwise quite nice, natural, like them a lot.

Hm, which means to say you actually use ETTL to compensate for everything?

Thanks for your compliment, i'm not sure if its the skin thats like that or its really blur. Main thing is her face is clear thats good enough :P

Not entirely, I normally use a light sphere or diffuser dome to bounce & control my flash. Instead of relaying of a fast lens, I normally control my flash to achieve a "similar" effect.... :)

Hi guys, let me know if I need to open a new thread for this cos I am new here.

I am trying to upgrade from a PNS to a DSLR and I realised that I not that pro yet and found out that a PROSUMER could be the answer to my aspirations haha.

And thus my search for a suitable Prosumer.

I have identified Pansonic FZ 18 and FZ 28 as 2 of my favourites just loosely based on what i read in reviews that it is a cool entry level Prosumer?

Got some questions:

1) Would a FZ18 suffice for me or should I pay a bit more to get the FZ 28? What are the market prices I expect to pay for a brand new and what freebies to expect?

2) I love taking macro shots. Are these 2 good for macro shots? I saw a number of users using these 2 for macro shots but I also saw comments they used some sort of filter etc? Are those expensive and how will those enhance the macro shots experience?

Sorry for interrupting!

Hi Gasband, sorry I cannot help you with price matters cuz I am in Australia, but yes you can take macro photos, I use a Raynox macro filter which cost me about $100 last time I was in S/pore.
I got a phone call last night from a friend who told me he has a large stick insect in his garden for the last four days, will try to get there and post some shots.
Will be coming back to S/pore in June/July to renew PR so I am hoping an FZ user Outing can be organized.

Hi all,

1)hello.. and welcome to FZ... In the market now, based on first hand, its quite difficult to find FZ18, most shop are selling FZ28 instead... and the first hand price should be below $649 with 8GB memory card and cam case.

I'll suggest you to get a 2nd hand FZ18 (if u dun mind), as its very cheap in the forum now, ... should be around $350... with every things, but of coz fz18 will lose out to fz28 in term of spec... but the advantage is tat it is cheap and since u are considering if u wanna go into dslr... so u will still have more money to invest into dslr when u wan it and then keep fz18 as ur spare cam

2) FZ18 and FZ28 itself is actually very good with micro... The add-on filter raynox DCR 250 is just to increase the micro further... its like without the DCR 250 you won't be able to shot sharp drangonfly eye, but can take micro of the drangonfly. DCR 250 is about $100, quite a worthy investment for FZ user i believe.

anyway nice photo shoyo, very sharp and clean.

dun worry clunk, we will definitely have an outing during the june and july period... its my only holiday time, and after tat i will be busy again... damn... i might be bringing 2 friend from my sch to join us, both are canon dslr user. Though we haven't plan where to go, most probaly will go random and try to get lost and tired... hahaha

Just to share a couple of pix (literally) i took at Turi =)
