because i tried a ringflash of unknown brand, maybe suntax or sunpak on my FZ-50 and it didnt respond. Must i change any settings when using non-dedicated flashes?

same hotshoe? im not very sure... flash and body nv fail to make me .
but just becareful when trying out new flashes, if triggering voltage ain't suitable you might just "burn" ur cam.
lol.. ExplorerZ, thanks for replying so quickly! do u have any experience with the FL-36? i need an external flash for insect photogrpahy, thus i need relative fast recharge rates at low outputs... does the FL-36 fit the bill? thanks!

eh v long nv use/own a panny liao leh... but from what I know FL-36 is still "ok" for macro, but some complain that it recharge real slow. anyway for macro, since the subject is so close, most probably you don need a very powerful flash.
