hi, just a heads-up to those looking for a Gitzo tripod...

the Gitzo Explorer G2228 (four-section version, carbon fiber) is on sale now, @ S$560 at Cathay. usual offer price @ CP is about $680. there's about 2-3 units left so make your way down Peninsula if you've been eyeing it...

cheers!

kongg !! buy buy buy !!!

hehheh yah fastah fastah! the CP people say they don't expect the stocks to last past the weekend... but i dunno if that was a sales tactic to get me to get it now...

It probably is. :P

yeah i thought so... but the price is really quite good though.

1. Do u need a CF for the explorer model? Aluminium one is 2.2kg and 162 cm, while the CF one is 2.2kg and 164 cm. Is the S$280 extra worth the money?

2. Is 4 sections good?

3. Why do they have promo only for the 4 sections CF model and not the others?

:dunno:

actually i think the CF one is lighter... about 2kg. i was comparing the weight with the alum one and it is definitely heavier.

2. Is 4 sections good?

well CP doesn't carry the 3-section one, cos it's about $200 more and the height difference is not that much. so they don't bring it in.

3. Why do they have promo only for the 4 sections CF model and not the others?

as above, they don't carry the 3-section model. not sure about the alum version...

Oops, my typo mistake. CF is 2kg and Aluminium one is 2.2kg. Just 200g different, really can't justify spending extra $$$ for the little different.

u never carry a Gitzo non-CF tripod, u also never carry a Gitzo CF tripod before. if you does, you won't make that statement.

There are a few guys here upgraded to from non-cf to CF. Why ? It is the weight, dude.

try carrying 2.2 KG plus some heavy equipment, walk up and down for 7 hrs. you will know why.

every year CP got Gitzo 'Sale'.....

I do have a Gitzo G1340 Aluminium tripod before. Weight more than 3kg. I understand that weight is a big issue when carrying such a heavy beast around. Most Gitzo CF tripods have significant less weight (1kg+-) compare to the aluminium version in the same series, but the explorer series is just 200g different btw aluminium and CF, and 2kg (or 2.2kg for the aluminium version) is really not that heavy. For me, it doesn't worth it, of course you can choose to buy the CF version since it is your money.

my point is...is 200g really that much significant to one that he/she is willing to spend extra S$280 for the 200g? (not taken into account the 3 sections of aluminium and 4 sections of CF)

Kho King........if u went travelling with a aluminium tripod compared to a CF tripod, u will feel the diff. U will wan to have a lighter tripod. YR shoulders will thank u for it.

Hmmm....OT.

What do you guys think of the Manfrotto Carbon One? Is that cheaper than the Gitzo CF ones in Singapore? Anybody using that one?

In my opinion, the Explorer tripod is really not that fantastic, not really stable too. More of a niche tripod that is good at getting into odd angles.

Sellable Gitzo usually don't get offers from Cathay, model like G1224, G1320 and 3 section series 3 CB tripod are not seen given discount before, maybe I missed it !!

The above tripod which I used and is really good tripod to go for. If your setup is not that heavy, G1224 is a good choice. I can T-loan you one for a weekend to test it out.

Mine is the older G224, G1224 is a revise version.

Do PM me.

Just bought a G1126 on promo. The price is, however, the same to that in China, normal price. Why such a big difference??

For M308RC, CP quotes S$115, whereas elsewhere it is sold at S$88. Interesting!
