I work in product design and sealing against water ingress is seriously much more challenging that you'd think.

Even without the added pressure that you'd get during a full immersion, water ingression via capillary action through tiny gaps is amazingly hard to control and cater for in a mass-produced product due to production/assembly tolerances.

But if this is any indication of how well design and built the E1 is then I can't wait for the new E3!

I hope Oly's manufacturing plant can maintain the same level of QC for the E-3 as they did for the E-1. Heard the new E-3s will be made in China?

Even if for splashes or showers, care must be taken to make sure those are not strong splashes or sprays. A jet of water when it hits a surface does exert considerable pressure onto a surface that may equal being submerged under some X metres of water and may pierce the gaskets!

Get a Kit Kat. You worry too much. Its only a camera.

Say, is the lens mounting ring area of the E-1 body gasketed?

I should think so... I love abusing it. Its my S&M partner... LOL. And I have never been let down.

I think most of us baby our equipment to the point that we're not fully utilising it for fear of risking damage. (Shooting in bad weather, dirty/dusty locations...)

I know I for one am guilty of this ;p

Think I need to shift my mindset - there no better reason to upgrade than having your current equipment break down! :bsmilie:

Oh my gawd did I just say that ?!? - touch wood.. touch wood... :bsmilie:
