Fujifilm X-Pro1

Quite a deal breaker.

I'm wondering if there'll be 3rd party support for mount adaptors.

i'm sure the RJs,Kipons, metabones will be working hard on this...after GXR A12 mount came out, there's more option for m mount adapters on ebay as well.

What I was really curious about was the distance scale on the lenses. Looks like there isn't one. Fuji probably didn't want their users to do manual focusing without looking into the vf or on screen...

Or maybe I'm wrong and saw the pictures wrongly. My anticipation for this camera is dropping... :(

Sure, they could do it, it's just an image filter anyway. Though, if they haven't done it now I doubt they will provide it later.

question is if they can implement focus peaking without getting sued by $ony... Not sure if they own the rights to it though.

I highly doubt that. It's pretty much just some sort of edge detection image filter, no magic involved there at all.

Peak focus is not pattern at all. Ricoh has this in their GXR M module.

Not even just those two. There are even just monitors out there with peaking for ages. You can plug in any camera to get peaking. Sony was simply smart enough to be the first to put it into a still camera.

I think Fujifilm in a way implemented focus peaking in their S3pro which was launched around 2004.

I'm not too sure about that, though I sure hope its not.
The Ricoh one is not colored AFAIK.
They may be able to do something similar, but I doubt anyone dares to implement it in exactly the same way as the Sony version in case they play dirty (like Apple vs all Androids) and road block competitors with lawsuits. (BTW, do Jap companies do that against each other?)

Ricoh M module has peak focus in white color, though it may not be as good as Nex5n/7

just my thoughts only. before there was focus peaking, photographers relied on their own eye to ensure that the subject was in focus.

while Focus Peaking is good to have, i don't think it's entirely a must... but for myopic people like me, it'll be a good things to have :bsmilie:

not sure if there is a patent on Focus Peaking, cuz if there is one, then definitely Sony will sue. but if there isn't, what's to stop other players in the arena from implementing it?

for me, i still enjoy the colors of a Fuji. but other than the adaptors and peaking, another factors would be pricing. i've too many cameras and getting the Fuji would kill my bank account, if the pricing is as rumored.

Actually Canon EOS bodies got peaking too with the Magic Lantern firmware. No idea why people think Sony might prevent others from releasing a camera with peaking too. It doesn't even make any sense. :-) There are already too many video cameras, monitors and still cameras with the same feature on the market for decades.

I dont think Sony is preventing other manufacturers from implementing focus peaking. Its just probably a decision by Fuji to leave this feature out after considering the proposition of the Xpro-1 and costs.

If they did, they would have sued Ricoh by now.

Has anyone posted this "first look". The high ISO seems to be better than Nikon D3!

I could not load it. Is it a claim or has someone seen actually seen images from the camera.

But wasnt the ricoh the first camera to be released with this focus peaking feature - end 2009 - vs Sony nx which was released in 2010?

Quite exciting that IQ is so good. I guess i will hold off on the x100. The only thing is the X-pro1 appearance is not exactly to my liking. It looks a little like the oly e-pl2. I wished that it looked more like the x-100 instead.

2009 and 2010? o_O As far as I know both got peaking in 2011, NEX was first followed by GXR. NX is from Samsung by the way.
