Fujifilm X-Pro1

This will not really bother people who wants to put manual focus M mount lenses in front of the cam....

Yup , but still pretty much unknown whether Xpro-1 will have any peaking features implemented on it to enable easier manual focusing.
That is the real bothering piece of uncertainty. .

X100 focus-by-wire manual focus is retarded.

However, the implementation is excellent with Panasonic m43 cameras.

sadly, after owning the X100 for several months now, I am inclined to agree. Its kinda tedious especially when you are someone who are used to manual focus and a few people who do prefer MF over AF.

When it was announced, I had high hopes this would be a NEX 7 with improved 5N's sensor. I am still hoping when the dust settles.

Fujifilm X-Pro-1 Hands-On: Intoxicatingly Simple | Gizmodo Australia

"The camera’s one drawback, and Fuji has told us that this will be the case on the production models, is that the autofocus isn’t going to be as snappy as it is on other cameras. Fuji says thats because that’s not what this camera is about. Fine, but it’s going to annoy the hell out of you if you’re used to a good point-and-shoot camera or DSLR."

Looks like this is going to be a deal breaker for me. That's the precise reason I got rid of my X100. The other deal breaker for me is the lack of built in flash and the optional small flash EF20 make the thing much bigger. And the other thing is that I wanted a zoom and the zoom coming out 18-46 F4 is two stops less than the X10.

Comparing the X10 at ISO 800 with a X100 at ISO 3200 to simulate the two stop difference, via the studio comparison tool shows that the quality is similar in terms of noise.
Studio shot comparison: Digital Photography Review

So I'll probably skip the Pro1, unless the Pro1 noise levels are at least 3-4 stops better than the X10. Or wait for the generation X100/Pro1 which hopefully will have better auto focus.

Unfortunately, quick and accurate autofocus is very important to many people including myself. This deal is definitely broken for me. :(

Figures that Fuji still has issues with AF.

Would be happy enough if the focussing like x10.

We know the issue with slow AF in X100, but i don't need super fast focus as 7d, as long as the manual focus feels natural to compensate the sluggishness in low light, i think its already a good improvement, X10 definitely faster than X100

I really hope for the sake of those who will use this that they do improve on AF and by-wire MF... For now, ill have to settle with my X100 until i can splash the cash for the Pro1... maybe in the next decade or so :)

While I agree that this is not a sports camera, but in todays expectations and for the price they are selling this camera for. Buyers may not be willing to compromise, maybe at least not in terms of AF speed.

Same here. I was wetting my pants in excitement about this x-pro (already own x10 and its quite good). but will have to wait and watch about this AF business. I prefer my cameras to have snappy focus. I am rather moronic when it comes to manual focus.
Was planning a purchase in near future and looks like its going to be d700 for now.

+1... good point... atleast it should be better than the AF in the X100... Thats the only beef I have with an otherwise excellent camera... But by no means am I letting go of it just yet :)

Focus by wire is only for it's X-lens right?
If i use other regular lenses, then it should be fine right?

If they had a model that sells 500$ cheaper and doesn't have AF. I'll get that. =P

Yes.

I would buy one too! Their AF technology is pointless.

Have a question... was looking at the specs at fujifilm.com, seems like the hybrid viewfinder will auto-switch to a different magnifier and frame line with different lenses attached.

FUJIFILM X-Pro1 | features - Hybrid Multi Viewfinder | Fujifilm Global

With the 18mm and 35mm on everything looks fine, but the 60mm retains the same view as the 35 with a much smaller frame line. I'm guessing that is how things work in a rangefinder, but it's going to be difficult to shoot with the 60mm.

Switch to EVF

Hi

Yes that is standard on any rangefinder, which is why they are optimized for focal lengths between 28 to 90; at most 135mm can be used on high magnification ones like a 0.85x Leica MP. (or less omfortably, on a regular 0.72x M6)

The X100 and the XPro-1 has the advantage of switching to the EVF, which would help immensely with longer focal lengths.

The XPro-1 styles like a rangefinder, shoots almost like one except for the RF focusing but it has lenses as big as SLRs.. 52mm filter threads? Tats the filter size of a Nikon 50 afd 1.8... The 3 lenses announced are akin to small primes for slrs, not close to the minute sizes of RF lenses, which takes alot away from XPro-1 for me.

I like the RF style body but its lenses are not so RF style leh :bsmilie:

Hmmm... body's gotten bigger than x100, no more leaf shutter, rather large primes, no 35mm eqv ... at this point only the sensor really attracts me...
