Fujifilm unveils F300EXR

For high zoom, they had to settle for a smaller sensor in order to maintain the size of the camera. Had they used the 1/1.7 sensors the thickness of the camera will have to be increased and so will the cost of the lens assembly. If noise is an issue, then any PnS is not for you and you should consider the Sony Nex series.

Personally, I think the weakness of the F200EXR had been its short zoom. The F300EXR addresses this main concern without adding too much weight and cost to the camera.

As a owner of a F200, I am a little disappointed with the specifications of the new F300. I thought the F80 would have answer all the shortcoming of the F200 , longer zoom and slim body by using 1/2 sensor. Or Fujiflim can launch F90 ..... to improve the F80 function.

F300 should be different from F80 series. It is supposed to be flagship camera. It should use 1/1.7 sensor. and if possible improve the aperture to 2.8 or better

With improved stabilisation, it should take better blur-free photos. :)

I agree, how can they call it F300exr when they made the sensor smaller? At least keep that the same size.

Not sure why they did this too. Hmmm. If I were getting a compact, it won't be the F300exr if I were looking at pure specs... because the older model seems better.

Well, the F200EXR is a gem. In reviews, it has been compared with the LX3.

Now, the F300EXR - with the much smaller sensor, and then, high MP count, picture quality is gonna to be :thumbsd::thumbsd:

At 15x zoom, just wonder who can hand-hold and shoot steadily at the long end of the zoo, despite the CCD stabilisation. Long tele zoom means you need faster shutter speed and higher ISO, so end up with lots of noise. Result - Pic quality :nono:

So, those who like Fuji, wait no longer, as there ain't many F200EXR left on the shelves of the stores here.

Well, to me, the zoom range of the F200 is just right, 28mm at the wide end to 140 at the tele end. We all know that 28mm is like the standard wide end for most SLR zoom for a long time, until recently, when that boundary has been pushed down to 24mm. As for the long end, for digicam, I am comfortable to be able to shoot properly up to about 140-150mm. IMO, anything longer is a white elephant - I am talking about real-world shooting out in the field.

As I said, the smaller sensor is needed to achieve the higher zoom in a small package. As a PnS, consumers care more for zoom. Noisy photos are not as critical for this group unlike the more technically inclined ones. I had a friend with a PnS and the camera is atrocious. Its low light photos are crappy but she find it "good".

Also x15 is quite usable. My previous Panny FZ series was able to set to x12 + 4x digital zoom and the shots came out fairly sharp handheld although the digital zoomed image quality was not so good. :)

But I do not think the F300 is aimed at the general PnS user. I think that this model should be aimed at user who would be buying models like Canon S90, Lumix LX-5, Samsung EX-1..etc. All these models do not have long zooms. Rather they have large sensors ( 1/1.7 ), large apertunres (f/2.0) and relative good picture quality @ high ISO.

I guess only time will tell if Fujifilm has made a mistake to enter a market will flagship model against so many models that are cheaper, better looking, more functions....

hai... F70EXR was such a letdown and now F300EXR w a smaller sensor.. i think still stick w the F200EXR better !! or buy EP-1 :p

you guys really hardcore f31fd fans... while it's nice the 38mm focal length doesn't cut it for me.. hence the f200exr. else i do agree the f31fd will be a great cam. any idea where can i get a nice s3pro these days? kinda miss my s5pro since she is gone.. :P

hey guys.. im initially thinking of f200, 300 and 80.. but for the above comments, i think have to let go of 300.. what about 80?

Actually the best way is to try out the camera and see if the images are good.
Some people may have special interests for which the camera will not meet those requirement. But as the F300EXR was designed for majority who may not have that kind of stringent need, it may meet your needs. The test is in the taste of the pudding!

In anycase, for what its worth, I have tried the image quality of the F31D and F200EXR and none of them qualify to me as meeting my requirements based on IQ alone. Not able to record in HD mode in present times is also a minus point for me as I shoot a good mix of photos and videos. (Same goes for the any of the other make's PnS cameras )

But they both offer best balance of size, price and IQ. And the F31 does offer best quality performance for its price. I bought the F200EXR previously based on this balance. (nowadays it has been replaced by the Sony Nex :) )

So my recommendation is go and check out the F200EXR and F300EXR yourself and see if they meet your needs. If you join the fuji outing, you can also try out the F31 too. Then make a decision based on your feel. Good Luck.
