FUJIFILM Corporation (President and CEO: Shigetaka Komori, hereinafter Fujifilm) announced today that from October 2007 onward, it will implement worldwide price increases for its color negative photo film products.

Fujifilm has undertaken intensive structural reforms globally to adjust to the harsh market conditions in the photo imaging business. However, despite these efforts to reduce fixed costs and improve productivity, it cannot continue to absorb the rapid rise in costs of silver, oil and other raw materials.

Prices are expected to increase globally by around 5 %. The rate of increase may differ by regional market.

since everybody shoot lesser in film, this is the only way to go...

shooting film is extreme in luxury compared to shooting with a Medium Format with Digital Back...

Remember... make every shot counts... 1 shot... 1 kill...

Does this affect slides as well?

It's not just Fuji but why do corporations think that raising prices in the face of a declining market is sound business practice? IMO that's punishing the remaining customers and hastening the demise of the product/service.

3 rolls of Superia 400 currently sells for $10 at minilabs. That 5% increase is on the ex-factory price. Let's see how it translates at the retail level.

So we wld need to stock up Fujifilm in our fridge now.

That's the only way to go. It's better they raise price and stay afloat, than to keep going and close down the division.

I only shoot with Ilford now, but I go to Fuji for colour film...

Ah well, time to support Fuji so that they don't go under!

I think the price increase has less to do with sales figures and more to do with the increasing cost of raw materials involved.
