It's nearly the same price or even more expensive than local after you include tax.

just wondering.. any x100 users actually selling their x100 to get the x10?

I sold my X100 to fund the X10. Reasons .. zoom (range and manual), much better focussing (faster, face detection, nearer), faster frame rate, image stabilization. Also better rationalising my X10, X100 and Nikon D7000. The X100 was more a specialized tool for me, where the X10 could cover 95% of what I need to do. The remaining 5% could be covered by my D7000 and 16-85mm.

While the X100 has better low light capability (great ISO 3200, F2 lens), it lacks stabilization. For what I shot the subjects are fairly stationary in indoor light, so image stabilization helps. So I figure I'm getting about 2 stops advantage on the X10 from image stabilization, so that negates the roughly 2 stop advantage the X100 sensor has over the X10. The bokeh advantage of X100 at 35mm APS C sensor is negated by the telephoto of the X10 using 2/3 sensor. Anyway for my kind of shooting, I seldom need shallow depth of field.

On my Nikon I usually shot at F5.6 to get enough depth of field (anyway the lens not that fast to F2.8), but on the X10, I'm usually at F2-F2.8, so that gives me around 2 stops better on the lens, so even if we say that the Nikon D7000 sensor is about 2 stops better in terms of noise, that sort of breaks even. So effective low light capability of X10 (at F2-F2.8) compared to D7000(at F3.5-F5.6) is about the same. Originally I also wanted to get a macro lens for the Nikon, but since the X10 does it quite well, I don't have to do that now. The only advantage for me of the Nikon D7000 is possibly the faster focussing, but if I find that that's also not that important or the X10 is fast enough, then the D7000 may be for sale too.

In summary, the X10 is something I've been waiting for years .. Good image quality, fast and accurate focussing, low light capability, mid range zoom range, view finder and in a LIGHT portable package. I'm long past the age of liking to carry a heavy equipment. So while the X10 is more expensive than most high end compact cameras, I feel its not fair to compare it to a compact camera, its so much more capable.

I did consider 4/3 systems, but with the equivalent lens, its bulky. Also Panasonic is best worked with raw (I shot mainly JPEG, cos I got other better things to do that do tons of post processing). Olympus JPEGs are supposedly good, but their company may end up being delisted. The Sony mirror less system, nice compact body, but looks grossly oversize with their lenses. Nikon 1 series .. slow zoom lenses (negating their possible sensor advantage), a joke with their view finder and flash combination (you can't get both, unlike the X10).

My first digital SLR was the Fujifilm S2Pro. Horrible body, but really nice colors and noise control up to ISO 800. Later got the Nikon D70 to 'upgrade', but the noise and color could not match the S2Pro, but had a much better body. I'm feeling the X10 is better in terms of color and noise compared to the D70, possibly even better (or at least as good) as the S2Pro. Those cameras were all 6Mp. For what I shoot, 6Mp is more than good enough, so I shot everything on the X10 at Medium (6Mp).

Could it be more perfect? Yes .. Having the hybrid viewfinder of the X100 would be cool. Being able to choose the minimum shutter speed for auto ISO would also be great; having a standard filter size would also be less painful. But even being less than perfect, I think its one of the most significant cameras to come out.

fab mini-review - nailed all the pros and cons. have you tried or had either the s90/s95? i know it's not a like-for-like comparison since the lens is inferior but do you think that'd have served your compact needs?

Buy it from eBay. It is much cheaper than from those photography shops here.

Thank you very much! Just a noob question, the size of the screw is standard across all brands?

I have both the cameras in question. I gave my views on the x10 in this thread at the top of page 19 if you're interested.

Short answer : yes the s95 has served me well and is probably still good enough for all my compact needs.

Long answer : the x10 has faster focus acquisition. That alone makes it worth while. (esp if you have kids who just cannot stand still for even 1 sec...)
Also, as you are aware the F2.8 at the long end is really REALLY useful in lower light. Everything else, they are about the same. Fuji's OOC jpgs are also nicer imo.

Hope that helps. I still will be keeping my S95....fantatstic camera.

just happened to see the x10 deal at SITEX, $899 cash deal with the following freebies:
1 x OEM battery
1 x 8GB SDHC
1 x 16GB SDHC
1 x Fuji premium case
1 x tall tripod
1 x screen protector
1 x cleaning kit

Agreed. Both are fab. I haven't bought my x10 yet - more waiting for price to stabilise. My own reckoning is that I'll still keep the canon in my pocket, with the x10 in my hand. The x10 will be my compact dslr-alternative with 'constant' aperture mid range zoom!

IMHO, not worth buying online since it will not have any warranty coverage in Singapore.

Went to Sitex. Tried it out.... I felt it's too small to turn the knob.
Some butttons got in my way, my hands too big!

I tried it also. The OVF is quite disappointing. The focus points are not visible and image wont focus after being half pressed

that is expected... only way to overcome is: a) DSLR or b) digital viewfinder. But I understand the disparity compared to modern 'conveniences'. This camera is kinda like retro-modern... a throwback to the small manual rangefinder days (e.g. leica-m)

Not tried. But the lack of a manual zoom and focussing / shutter response is important to me. But then again I might get a canon S100 for more pocketable camera.

You might be surprised to know that s95 IQ is far better than s100

i think the digic processor in the s100 is better. lens-wise, the s95 may be better overall.

Wahh, looking at the price, may get it soon. still considering. want a advanced compact with fast lens instead of taking my NEX-3 with huge lens around everyday.
