Don't count out S100
Hi maldito, S100 is surely a fine camera. But I afraid specs-wise it is still lacking compared to LX5's f3.3 at tele-end
vs S100's f5.9. The zoom on S100 is longer at 120mm (LX5: 90mm) though.
Don't count out S100
Lx5 cost how much? Sensor bigger than x10?
correction can go to 10fps.

As for X10, i still feel that they have their market, maybe this price $999 is for the retro metal body, sensor size, the glass they use... ... if you still feel too pricey then you aim for online that cost US$599.95 less shipping which i guess will cost you 800 plus in total. Still good.

ahh... waiting for the price to come out! quickly launch! One more week to go....
you can register at amazon as a member then you buy from there and they will ship to you. However this is not economic because the shipping fee from the online store is very expensive! What I'm using is register as a member to this company 'comgateway' they will give you a US address for your online store to deliver the item to, then comgatewy will ship the item to your singapore address, the shipping fee is much more cheaper and most importantly you can buy bulk items from different stores and deliver to this US address and then comgateway will ship to you altogether at a economic price... ... like S$15 for a camcorder size which is not utlise yet. Other company like vpost also do such stuffs for you to save the shipping fees... ...
Is it true that Fujifilm sensors (other than the old S2/S3/S5pro series) do have better DR? I have not heard that the DR is very much better than other brands, other than the sensor used in the discarded DSLR line.. I admit those were really good for DR. We must have an apple to apple comparison - if you are say, pitting X100 against compact cameras, then naturally a larger sensor tends to have better DR..
The DR method used in X100 and the older DSLRs as well as compacts seems to be different. The older DSLRs use dedicated pixels for capturing DR info so resolution is sacrificed regardless of whether DR level is set to standard (i.e. non-high DR). The EXR in compacts modifies the old method that so that when high DR is not required, the adjacent pixels can be utilised to capture normal image. In X100, to get higher DR, one has to set higher ISO (1-stop higher at ISO400 for DR200, 2-stop higher at ISO800 for DR400). I suspect in the latest method Fujifilm uses some algorithm to record highlight info at lower ISO without sacrificing resolution.
The higher DR is good if you shoot in jpeg. If you shoot in raw, then I think there won't be much difference between brands for newer models. But in any case, for landscapes it is still not able to capture the full range of DR.

dun understand what you mean by "older DSLRs use dedicated pixels for capturing DR info"... is there such metadata info/tag in the EXIF?
