Oh yeah and not forgetting that sexy DCS 14N look alike shell....

I was actually also hoping for a better white balance system and also Adobe RGB.

sexy? i think it means that fuji bought the leftover stocks from kodak when DCS14n failed and modded it to the S3.

the vert grip has no command dials thus it's only a small small plus.

not much has changed..

i'll get it if the price is right and that it supports FAT32..

1/180 is achievable on S2 with a normal autoflash or blocking some of the pins i think. The rest are like cosmetic and body differences besides the sensor. I doubt this will be in my shopping list unless the price is nice.

Wonder what this means highlighted in bold
I am hoping it means a new focusing engine as well :D
Plus the new sensor sounds interesting

FUJI ANNOUNCES 4 NEW CAMERAS (02/05/04)

The first model aimed for the professional crowd is the highly anticipated Fuji FinePix S3 Pro DSLR digital camera. This camera will not disappoint all the professionals and others who were speculating recently just what Fuji would announce at PMA this year. The new S3 Pro will feature a new 12.2 effective Megapixel Super CCD sensor with 6.1 megapixels especially designed to better capture highlights and paired to another set of 6.1 megapixels of sensors better suited to capturing shadows. The technology used in this version of the SuperCCD was first announced last year in the consumer Fuji Finepix F700 camera and has been widely acknowledged to effectively deliver on the promise of providing a much greater dynamic range between shadows and highlights compared to the competition. The sensor has a size of 23mm by 15.5mm which would indicate the pixels are in deed generally much larger than the pixels used in the prior F700 and almost all other consumer fixed lens cameras. This should allow for much lower noise levels at all ISO settings. The near APS size of the new sensor will mean that images will have an approximate 1.5 crop of the field of view as do many of the current DSLRs (a 50mm lens will produce the equivalent of a 75 mm image). The new FinePix S3 will have both Firewire and USB 2.0 connectivity with PCs and it will have dual memory slots which will accept both xD cards and Compact Flash type I or II cards. Fuji has indicated to us in our product briefing that the body is not a re-design of an off the shelf or currently available body, but rather is being built from the ground up by Fuji and will be made of a sturdy Poly Carbonate material. The FinePix F3 will retain a Nikon Lens mount and Fuji indicates that it will be compatible with an even wider assortment of existing Nikon compatible lenses. It will also accept all Nikon Speedlights and has D-TTL capabilities. Other details we learned about this camera include the fact it will have dual shutter release buttons (for vertical and horizontal shooting) and the LCD monitor will now have a larger 2.0 inch size and will have a 235,000 pixel resolution with a new Multi-View or wider angle of view screen! The camera will be powered by 4 AA batteries, and will accept even alkaline batteries. Currently few other details are know, and FujiFilm USA has not yet established an exact shipping date, other than to indicate availability in the 2nd half of 2004, and the MSRP has not been determined yet.

Saw that, was hoping for more news during PMA but the initial procspects looks bleak.... In terms of focussing sensor, i doubt Fuji can do anything about it as they licence those technology from Nikon.

True ... Sigh!

I have a normal metz AF flash, 1/180 is doable. I notice my sb24 doesnt work at 1/180 even though i switch it to auto, probably due to the ttl pins. If u use some tape to block the rest of the pins that a AF flash doesnt use, u should be able to disable the TTL on ur speedlight and fire at 1/180 in auto. The tape thing is a guess, based on what my fren did to get his FL40 to work on his Canon.

Can anyone make a rough guess as to what the price will be like?

Used to own the S2 and the SB25 and tested them up to 1/180 under TTL mode successfully without having to do anything. ;)

i juz tested wif my sigma flash..
taped all the pins except the center one..
it worked!!!! :P

if they maintain the glorious fuji colour and image quality while increasing the dynamic range this will be one incredible camera. Low noise, high dynamic range, superior image quality.

When can I have one in EF mount?

Hi

Congratulations to the Fuji-ians! I am sure it will be a much better camera than S2 - at least it will be the machine to last for at least > 2 years, not like some that upgrades every 9 months...

The 4th generation CCD looks very promising....4 times dynamic range!! wow!!

With the vertical grip joined with the body, it does look very pro...like the D1x, D1h and D2h...

Anyway, all F-mount lah !!! :bsmilie:

When nikon stop selling to fuji i guess, but in that case, they might juz join Olympus's 4/3 instead. :bsmilie:
