I did a side by side comparison between F30, F100 and F200 with all in and siimilar default setting .
The result is ...

1st- F30 ( clean as a whistle)
2nd F100 (Not very far from F30 but still loses out by quite a margin)
3rd - F200 ( surprisingly , despite the new ccd , it fails in the noise dept compared to F100 and F30)

But, some say that the F200 is better in terms of noise control. But, personally, I prefer the F31fd and F30. Great cameras.

The fault of the Megapixel race. For tiny digicams, who needs more than 6Mp. Just becos they are able to pack more pixel into the sensor and also becos memory cards are so affordable and computers getting faster, we do not really need it.

Just cannot understand why can't someone like Fujifilm stick to say 6Mp and give us a great digicam at an affordable price. Or give us better optics or other better features.

A short review of the F60fd. If I were not mistaken, the F50 is the successor of the renowned F30/31. And this F60 is just a minor enhancement from the F50. Without comparing each and every item in the specs, the most obvious improvement is the larger 3inch screen.

Before I begin, I must say that I am not very demanding in my look for a handy digicam. A small handy digicam is kept in my pocket all the time, for snapshots and never meant for any serious shooting.

First impression - looks sleek with the metal parts and some faux metal parts in front and the huge 3inch LCD. Huge becos this is the biggest I ever had, even bigger than that of my Nikon D200. Things work fast enough for me, from the start up to the shooting, as in shutter lag and the wait to be ready for the next shot.

Shooting - well, just like any other digicam, I just started off with the full auto mode and see what it is like. Now, I have my son's Canon Ixus 85IS and my almost 5yr old Casio QV-R41 to compare. In outdoor bright landscapes, this cam gives me a wee bit sharper and crispier shots. The colours are also more vibrant and vivid, which is a trade mark of Fujifilm. I haven't even used the vivid colour mode. In a family outing, I shot a few food pic side by side with the Canon. Just a quick look, I could not see much difference.

Battery Life - well, I got a fully charged battery and used it for 2 full days and shot almost 200pics, quite a few with flash and quite a bit of viewing of the huge LCD. The battery still showed full.

When I have more time, I will check out the other scene modes, the manual, aperture priority modes, macro etc.

Well, among similar digicams, this one has got the biggest sensor, at 1/1.6inch, about the same as my old Casio at 1/1.8inch. So, it would good to see how well it copes in low light situations.

Come to think of it, I should have got the F100 for the 28mm wide angle.

Today, on the way home from work, noticed that the sunset looked gorgeous. So, off I went to Kallang, near the former Oasis to test out my brand new F60.

So, switched to the sunset mode and took a few shots. It didn't look a wee bit like the sample pic for the sunset mode. It came as a stop underexposed and then, the colour was off, not looking remotely like what I see with my eyes.

Fortunately, there is an aperture priority mode for me to do all the adjustment I wanted, in terms of exposure compensation, WB, saturation. At least, I got what a sunset should look like. A quick processing with Picasa gave me pretty good results. I will post one or two later. The good news is that I could hardly see any noise in the dark shadow area. However, while playing with the exp compensation, I naturally would look for the histogram - I couldn''t find it! My old Casio has it, my son's Canon has it too. And BTW, Picasa has got a wonderful 3colour histogram to boot! and that's for free.

BTW, my D200 gave me more noise under similar conditions.

So, here they are, 2 sample pix taken yesterday. Notice very little noise at the shadow area.

And here is one taken with my NikonD200 for comparison

And here is one sample pic, taken at the long end of the zoom. Looks pretty decent to me. There is ample details, crisp and very clean in terms of noise level without any NR applied. For this kind of digicams, I guess there is no point looking at 100% at the corner - I dun wanna to see how bad it is.

Wow wow wow, La Fontaine, thanks for your contribution. Your posts and your impression make me so useful. coz I'm also so boring to carry big camera for every day purpose.
And think about to buy useful and good picture quality PnS.

any compare photo about f60 and (f100 or f200)

I also want to consider about f60fd as well

Just back from a 5day trip to Yunnan with this cam. Didn't lug along a dSLR. Only this F60 in my pocket all the time. I will post some swell pic when I got the time later.:)

Only thing about this cam is that I dun have WA like 28mm or even 25mm. It's a 3x zoom - 35 - 105.

So, here it goes, a pic taking during my trip to Yunnan Lijiang.

A show of song and dance by some minority tribes.

Same pic, 100% crop. BTW, I shoot at 6Mp, not at the full 12Mp, which is an utter waste of memory space and processing time. Just see how big you could print at this resolution.;p

Hi,
Is your 60FD same as the F60S? I bought a F60S 2 mths ago at the IT show, and the battery last for only 80 to 130 shots, maybe due to the cool weather in Australia/New Zealand, 17 deg C. Unfortunately when the battery goes flat, the lens does not re-track to its original position. Does yours? My wife got to put it into her hand bag without the case. She must have 'squashed' her handbag while carrying as such the lens now does not work. I checked with Fuji service and the cost to repair is about $260 as they have to change the lens. Did not repair, just regret making the wrong choice.

Oh, sorry to hear that. It is fundamental to have a spare battery. And then, for lithium battery, it is never a good idea to run the battery completely flat. Lithium battery prefers to be charged half way and topped up full most of the time.

My experience with the battery is that it last me more than a day worth of shooting, more than 100 shots with lots of viewing on the 3inch LCD, and lots of time on standby, with the LCD on.

Well, you can now go for a better camera. Do some search and check some reviews before buying. It is the season of the GSS, you know?

Now, digicams are very delicate and very readily prone to damage, especially the telescoping lens and the even smaller lens cover. Any small knock will definitely cause some serious damage. Always got to put it back into the pouch. I read somewhere that digicams got breakdown more due to physical damage than due to some other failure.

As for my dSLR, I dun use the lens cover, just have a filter and the lens hood for protection. And then, I dun use a dedicated camera bag. Just an ordinary looking sling bag for the cam. So far so good, my dSLR has accompanied me this way several times on holidays.
