I want
1. Weather sealed body
2. Magnesium alloy
3. 100 % view finder
4. if evf , zero shutter lag !
5. Large and comfortable grip
6. Continue Sony tip top noise performance
7. Top class AF and af tracking
8. Mirror lock up
DSLTs' EVF is already 100%... and they dont need to lock up mirror (except for cleaning) since the mirror is supposed to be fixed.
I m still hoping for ovf ...
Sony may or may not come out with a A7 series DSLR, we wouldnt know.
But this thread is about A77, its 2 digit already means its a DSLT (DSLRs have 3 digits) and DSLTs have to have an EVF, cos the light loss from translucent mirror makes OVF too dark (as Canon has found out years ago).
My bad then for being ot .... Bowing out
Haha... Now you know... Still wondering why we want a OVF when there is only 30% for it. :bsmilie:
Though, there are rumours saying that, A700 maybe the only and last A7xx series that comes with OVF. This would be same for A900 and A850. Sony is going to release new body that is using SLT. Time will tell how true is such rumour.

To be honest, if Sony really is bold enough to replace the OVF in A7xx/8xx/9xx with EVF, then that EVF must be damn good...
I think EVF has a lot of potential and good aspects... only bad side of it is it eats more battery juice the live viewA33/A55 battery life is shorter using EVF than LCD...
Btw, why would someone use EVF while LV is already so good? Any reason to share?
maybe old habits hahaha coming from DSLR I always use OVF when shooting specially bright sunny day as LCD sometimes not that bright and also save battery
So I guess I carried that to DSLT but composing via EVF is very good I hope OVF is as clear and has a lot of info like EVF could display. Also i find shooting via EVF/OVF makes your stance more stable less prone to shakes specially using zoom lenses. Coz when I shoot via EVF/OVF my arms are very close to my body thus it has more support while LV you tend to move it a bit further out of your body so you can compose unless you like sticking the LCD close to your face
But I think its personal preferencesome dont like OVF/EVF when composing some likes it. To me I shoot maybe 50-50 LV and EVF
Overlay the manual focus check live view image onto the OVF, that would be very cool!

Agreed. In bright daylight condition, OVF/EVF is much preferred.
Not only you can see better, since the camera (eyecup) is resting on your eyes, it somewhat enable better stability.
Of course, if you going to shoot something that moves fast and always unknown directions like kids and pets, LV on LCD is easier.
Missing LV on A700 was the major reason why I sold it.
I think LV and EVF is the future of DSLR now... i think like most ppl say in few year from now most DSLR will have EVF... look at LV last time only few brand has it now almost all newer models has LV.
But of EVF vs OVF I think some models may retain the OVF as these are some of the heritage of the film SLR.
OVF vs EVF has the same debate with film vs digital.
LV vs no LV, Video in DSLR vs no video and the list goes on.
It's hard to make people accept it initially, but when it goes mainstream, everybody can't live without them.
Btw, why would someone use EVF while LV is already so good? Any reason to share?
1) Sun is too bright to use LV.
2) You don't want pple behind you to see what you're shooting :bsmilie: <<-- I like this... but this is true
3) You want to 'blend in' a crowd of C & N shooters without drawing too much attention. <<-- Actually I like the attention... one time I was in MBS and fellow shooters from other camp was looking at my camera trying to figure out what make it was (I think)
4) You want to look more 'Pro'. <<-- this one also yey!
5) You're extreme long-sighted and need the diopter setting of the EVF <<-- not yet that old but I like to see things in EVF during a sunny day less eye strain
An equally important question:
Why would you want to use an EVF instead of an OVF
1) Your eyecup got superglued to your eye socket and you need to change some setting. <<-- Warning do not attempt to do this... this could only be perform by experienced photographer
2) You are shooting something in the dark which is too dark to see with the OVF.
3) You haven't managed to remove the super-glued eyecup and you want to review your shots.
4) You don't want pple to know that you have changed some settings. <<-- cheeky
5) With the histogram on, you can now see the clipped areas of the photo and adjust for it.
6) Whatever you can see with LV you can also see with EVF.
For sure the first generation Sony SLT EVF do have problems that needs addressing before they can totally dominate OVF....
Issues that needs to be improved with EVF
1) Energy requirements ...current EVF saps battery power. <<-- I hope no one would suggest to carry a car battery in your camera bag to solve this issue
2) A tiny delay in view compared to OVF.(Most would not noticed it) <<-- hmm i never noticed it....
3) Ghosting under certain circumstances. <<-- I agree... it makes your photo looks a bit soft or has shake... I've seen this on my night shots using tripod or maybe it was my SSS I have not tried to take night shot again with SSS off.
4) Brilliance under bright sunlight as seen thru OVF. <<-- Nothing can replace actual bro... what you see in OVF is actually reflected image like looking your self in front of the mirror... EVF/LCD can only view certain amount of colors depth and is bond by pixel count/size.
5) Ability to adjust the brightness of the EVF by users.
