From My Hanoi Trip

I like this one most, the subject in focus, and isolated, and the background is uncluttered.
I enjoyed your other children photographs and the #1 of course.

Makes me look forward to visiting Hanoi end of the month, but I'm just seeing the city and Halong Bay area.

actually, i'm not sure, the bokeh looks pp'ed

still this is a very nice series, i will view it later on home, i think my school comp lab computer screen damn sucky sia. damn high contrast

ts - mind if i take your original girl picture and play with it? :)

I enjoyed viewing these, especially as I have a very similar photo as #1 - but not half as nice.

I do think the PP needs to be tweaked a bit - but I'm guessing you used RAW and will be able to go back to these in a years time and make them outstanding.

Looks like you had a great holiday and that's what it's all about at the end of the day. R&R with those you love (or at least like).

not so much abt the bokeh, but the eyes is oversharpened. not a big flaw but could be better handled.

my take on that photo, ts if you mind please let me know, i will take it down

from the "original" one posted up; job is sloppy admittedly, did it quickly

playing around further, thought it looked better in b&w because the colors weren't that strong in the first place, this might be a personal view

personally i like this last one, but it's not a very proper job. haloing is present, as you can see, just anyhow do it with a large brush :)

hi night86mare,
your pp looks very interesting. am comparing it to the orig, and what you done brought out something special! hmmm .... let me analyse how to do that thing you do....

yup, increased the hightlight and midtones for the eyes a little too much ..... gotta handle this area carefully .......

I shoot in jpeg & I am quite sure the colors of your shot can be tweaked to achieve a bit of the look that you want.

Yes, my wife and I did enjoy the trip - its the ppl that we travelled with that made the difference - they were fun-to-be-with strangers, thrown together for a few days, made to walk long stretches whilst enjoying the heavenly scenery......

maybe if i have more time i will do a proper job slowly :D

for the first one, did some color balance, shadow highlights, and used layers and multiply and brush to "even out" the surroundings exposure with the girl

for b&w version almost the same, just use gradient map after that.. and then use layers to selective blur, cheers

thanks to you and zoossh, I got many new ideas to try out! i am beginning to love this sub-forum!

what lens and aperture did you use? there seems to be quite a lot of streakiness or maybe the background is still very distracting even with bokeh.

otherwise the colors and sharpness of the person is very good. can also be slightly brighter in my taste.

was using the 50mm f1.8II, setting at Av f2.0 & I remem there were many tree-branches. this lens does not give a creamy bokeh, but its in the lightweight category.
btw, Ulla is prettier in real life! my pic does no justice for her looks .....
