Hi all. both of D70 and D100 are find. I like D100 becuase it gave me a solid feel. While for D70, it's new and light, good for travel. For me, most importance thing in lenses. I will rather for the time being getting the D70, and invest on high end nikon lenses like 70-200VR, AFS 17-35mm, and some primes. 2 year down the road, when D200 or whatever come out at reasonable price, i will instead replacing the D70 body tp whatever available. For me the DSLR body lifetime is very short, you never know the reliability problem after few years time. Lenses are diff, it can be keep up to many years if you take good care of it. So. IMO, Body is just like a spare part and the main part is lens. :) dont flame me ok.. it's just my thought. Happy shooting :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

You are spot on Sam.

one of the hardest problem I have difficulties living with is D70 lacks vertical grip. any camera without vertical grip is considered a piece of plastic to me.

Wah no vertical grip = plastic. Many of the pro of yesteryear also no vertical grip, only have motor drive but still produce good picture leh. Vertical grip is more of a modern luxury and not a absolute necessity.

Pros/amateurs of yester-years are all plastic toy players. :bsmilie: :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

A piece of plastic that produces great photographs. I'll take it anytime. By the way its still the person behind the camera that makes the difference :)

Maybe I should add on (borrowed from another thread from expert).
One of the difficulties I have living with D1 and D2 is the lack of build in flash without the flash it is considered a piece of plastic to me. :bsmilie: :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

I love plastics - polycarbonate to be precise. Metal, be it alu alloy, magnesium - are heavier, more difficult and costly to produce. Plastics are actually more costly than metal as a material in general, but manufacturing cost is much lower. Plastic also light and tough.

As someone said, digital cameras might not last that long afterall. So, no problem with plastics. Metal lovers should go for those grand-father cameras like FM2 or other all mechanical type. Maybe I will buy one and display it in my living room.

We all love to have instant gratification, have that dSLR now, and not in 3 years time. So, go get that camera today, and shoot, shoot and shoot. :bsmilie: : :

ya... just shoot shoot shoot with nikkor trinity.... :blah: :blah:

The best camera is beside yr nose... The WB never fails and focusing is always spot on... D70, D100, D60, D2h, D... pls step aside..

wad u mean by the best camera is beside ur nose b specific la.. haha... but i think DSLR is here to stay... technology is moving fast, and DSLR will still remain however they will be replaced by better, faster, bigger cameras... thats when prices start to drop...

Moulds for Plastic is costly, however its very very cheap and fast to produce... imagine u can make 240 times the amount... so actually the body of the camera is very cheap... its the electronic component that makes it costly.

Magnesium alloy is different. its a composite of magnesium and a alloy of metals such a aluminium. bulid the same way of a D2h, Nikon DSLR has their principle points reinforced for heavy useage, however do keep in mind, in terms of durabilty, a Magnesium Alloy body will be surely better in terms of resistant to weather, shock, wear and tear, humanoid handling factors and antropometry and ergomonics factor.....

The price may drop for D100 if its a Polycarbonate body, it will drop drastically if its a plastic body as its technology is somehow a little
"back dated" and D70 is somehow abit more technologically advanced.

So get wad i mean ?? hahahhha.. dun flame me too... juz stating my ideas.. but from what i have followed up...

a Nikon D90 will be coming up, with a Magnesium Alloy Body and will be a replacement for D100... will have features on par with D2H/D70. and of course maybe with the additional features of Vertical Grip, Bulit-in-Flash.

but that will be in 2005. so have to wait a while longer b4 we can have a new and more sturdy body lar rite ? i dunno how true is this D90, but definately, the D100 is surely "old" enough to be replaced with a new Magnesium Alloy body.... rite ?

BUT.. .the D1/D2 series is here to stay.. they are the true DSLRs with monster speed and monster range of accessories.. hahahhahaa... hey when is the D2x is coming out !?!?!? hahahaha

I thought Nikon is pretty clear about their line of dSLR - one amateur or amateurish D70, D100 and then D90 which are more or less based on the F80 or F75, with polycarbonate body, and corresponding shutter and others like AF module, etc.

The other are the D1x, D2x where the x could be H, X or other alphabet. Theses are based on the F100 or F5 monster cameras targetted at the pros.

Now, I hope that the D90 comes out soon, with the combined feature of the D2H and D70, or a little less of the D2H, and based on the F80 in terms of shutter, AF module, mirror etc.

I notice that all the cameras so far have got mirrors, shutter, and even pentaprism and AF sensors positoin that are full-frame size and not the DX size. Does that means that Nikon do not border to redesign them or it takes too much effort to do it. Or it is that Nikon is more or less arriving at a full-frame affordable camera so no need to redesign those stuff. That is why the Olympus E1 boast that it is designed from the ground up and not based on a film camera. That is why the E1 shutter is so very quiet, hardly any recoil or noise, due to the very small mirror and shutter.

dun waste ur time. for all this time u spend talking, u could have gotten ur d70 and gotten that much better shooting.

get the d70. i've handled both, no way u shd go back to older technology.

if money is not an object, get d2h.

Between yr ears, you mean :bsmilie: ya, agree, that is the best camera system so far. No human technologies can beat it. But it does deteriorate with age.
