From Canon to Nikon experience ...

folk who are into photography that a lot of people who do birding tend to use Canon, because their Tele lens tend to be cheaper than Nikons? Since I don't bird, just wondering if that's true?

FD, yes. EF, not really but EF was the fastest AF then because Nikon didn't have AF-S yet.. AF-I lenses were very expensive.. ;p

Glad to see I'm not the only one. I bought a Canon dSLR because I was utterly new and my friend could get a discount.

While Canon has its own pro, if I had known then what I know what, I guess I probably would have gone the Nikon way earlier.

Oh well, no use lamenting... just hope to get what I want soon. ;)

yes...gotta look forward to the swtich to the Dark Side... BBB...

Yeah man...I just got my D300 not so long ago. With the battery grip, I find it a joy to hold (Yes it is heavy even with a 50mm).

The D300 is really addictive, i am just a newbie, and after holding on to the D300 at the store, no other camera i tried felt the same. It just felt so tough, but comfortable. Even bought it over the Nikon D90. Cant say i have ANY regrets!

With a Great camera, comes greater respondsibility ;)

Welcome. ;)

Now that's a thought ... =) ..and I might go and do it ... haha

that IS a interesting idea..
imagine your phone ringing tone sounding like shutters going off!

Good.. then if I hear Nikon shutters going off in someone's phone, then I know must be from CS. hahaha.. ;p

:bigeyes:Never handle a D3 before but its shutter really that fast!?
I think I going to solder a mp3 player and a mini speaker on my D70 when I click on my shutter this mp3 will play along!

That was only the 9fps clip. You should hear the 11fps one. ;p

Hmm...i bought Nikon cos i'm used to Nikon as i started with a Coolpix 4500. The friend who gave me the coolpix actually wanted to buy me a Canon S40.(or was it S45?) So if that was the case, would i buy a Canon DSLR instead especially when back then, most people i know suggested that i should buy Canon DSLRs. Anyway, i  my Nikon gear. :)

Agree 100%...I am in the midst of selling my Canon gears...:)

I am having both systems as my hobby is to collect gear.

What I like about Nikon
Nikon is generous to bring high-end features to lower-end cameras (sensors, weather-seal, built, user-interface, etc) while Canon like to cripple features in low/mid cameras.
Nikon maintains quality in all/most of its products while Canon restricts quality to high-end products. (but Canon is slowly changing)
Its cameras are photographic tools with instantly accessible functions while most of Canon's feel like menu-driven appliances.

What I like about Canon
Acquires focus faster, good for sports/birding
Image (personal preference)
Fantastic series of USM(=SWM) prime lenses 24f1.4, 35f1.4, 50f1.2, 85f1.2, 135f2, 200f1.8, in addition to the super-teles with IS/VR, which Nikon is just starting to make.

As for service, I think both are good, but I feel Nikon is better. Waiting for Canon service feels like waiting in a hospital. But that's just me.

I agree with what you say here. The two most important factors to me are AF accuracy and QC control. Nikon actually had lots of front/back focus issues during the D70 era, but they learn their lesson well and most of their current products work reliably straight out of the factory. Canon, on the other hand, never seems to learn from mistakes. I need to get ALL Canon lenses calibrated each time I purchase a new Canon body. No joke.

On the other hand, although Nikon is quick to recognize the camera needs of photographers, they seem to employ a rather strange road-map for their lens line-up. Why all the fuss about entry level lenses, one after another (18-70, 18-200, 18-55, 16-85, 18-105)? They should have focused their attention on prime lenses and more importantly more VR lenses. Why they chose not to include VR in their 17-55 f/2.8 and 24-70 f/2.8 lenses is a mystery to me.

The day Nikon releases a 17-55 f/2.8 VR and 70-200 f/4 VR, let me know. I will jump in immediately, lock, stock and barrel. :bsmilie:

Oh! Abit OT here...It's a fun camera don't u think? Can take photos of people secretly and can be used as a mirror. :)

Which camera do u intend to get? D700? Buy 1st then slowly sell off your current system lah. :bsmilie:

HI
6. I like colors from Canon better than Nikons. Having said that, I can simulate similar colors in Nikon in post-processing. Which is one extra step in the total processing.

:)

been Nikon user since film days and was on D70; D2X.... almost wanted to switch to Canon because I really like the color. However D3 pull me back in with superb high ISO noise control and FX sensor...

can you share what exactly you do on post processing to simulate canon color the way you see it?

cheers...

Hmm what is the definition of Canon colour? I know Nikon tends to be warmer (more yellow), so does that mean Canon is colder (more blue)?

i don't know why but i love both brand and i use both :):)
