From Canon to Nikon experience ...

I've been there and done that with Nikon F3 vs Canon New F-1 with motordrive. Simply love the Nikon sound. I think it's deliberately engineered to sound like how it is.

Is it? I like the 1DMk3 mirror sound though. Goes "clunk clunk clunk clunk". The old D2H used to go "zht zht zht zht zht zht zht" ;p

Now the D3 goes "bang bang bang bang" :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

Haha. Wait till you hold it for 8h straight. You want to throw it into the dustbin after that.

Looks like you may be doing something you do not like...and yes, I encourage you to throw it in the dustbin. So that others who appreciate it will make that 'thing' useful.

Tell us, which dustbin is it? psychobiologist and I will be there ;)

No no no.. :nono: Give me a call, and I'll get to your place in 5mins, to collect it from you ;p

I think it's a 'package' of feelings. I've used 20D & 30D but now I'm using the humble D70. I played with D80 before.

I find the shutter sound is more neutral and not so invasive like in 20D and 30D. Once I was in Singapore Conference Hall for a chinese orchestra concert and I was snapping away with a 30D. During times when the music is soft, I bet the whole hall can hear my shutter CLUCK! Really, people a few rows away, turned and looked at me. Very mah lu...

I also like the nikon cams to be more accurate in focusing. After a day of shooting with canons, I got home and had to delete so many unfocused shots. But with nikon, I can get it right for majority of the time. Keeping rate is much higher.
Some say focusing is very accurate with the 1D models. But to pay that price for 1D vs $1000+ for a D60/D80/D90 etc. It's quite easy to see who is the winner.

Also, I prefer the rubber grip on nikons. A 50D isn't cheap. But take the money and look at D300. The smooth plasticky finishing of the 50D is no match for the weather seals and generous rubber grip on D300.

My 2cents worth..

First come, first served, Bro... :nono:

Welcome to the Dark side,

I was a SONY prosumer user (H5) and I own a Nikon D80 + D300 now. I agree with some of you who mentioned that once they hold the Nikon D300 and they wouldn't want to let it go. I have the same sentiment too. The curvature of the camera just make it perfect to hold, like a lady ;)

The looks of the Nikon D300 + MB D10 + any of the Nikkor lenses make it a perfect 'Chio Bu'. I bought the D300 in July and until today I am still admiring it's beauty. It is indeed a fusion of Art and Technology.

I am simply in Love with it

Yeah man...I just got my D300 not so long ago. With the battery grip, I find it a joy to hold (Yes it is heavy even with a 50mm).

For the 1DmkIII, either 1) they realised people like a more solid kind of sound, or 2) it was an engineering mistake. ;p Hope the mirror don't drop out after all the clunking.

Should go to DPreview to get all the shutter sound clips and use them as ringtones. ;p

Let's speed up the process. Hold it with your arm fully stretched. ;p

hehe i guess the sentiments are the same throughout.

1. D300 for example feels good with just one hand.

2. One can't put down a D300 when you pick it up and shoot.
(In fact I would admire it when I have got nothing at home and just fix up MB-D10
and 14-24 to see see look look and feel the weight... ok I'm insane)

3. Not much of a fan of canon cause my hand is huge and my thumb will have
problem just turning the jog dial behind.

4. I fell in love with the shutter sound when I got my first D70s. So yeah.

The D300 is really addictive, i am just a newbie, and after holding on to the D300 at the store, no other camera i tried felt the same. It just felt so tough, but comfortable. Even bought it over the Nikon D90. Cant say i have ANY regrets!

Can't agree with that. Don't like the sound of my D70, especially compared to the F80 and FA shutters. Really smooth - they don't make them like they used to.

Eh Luther - don't tell me you not tired after your weddings ah. ;p Or you carry 1 body only is it? (I thought you bring 2 around :dunno:)

Ok, now I know you are being serious. I thought you were trying to be sarcastic with your previous comment. ;)

Current Canon user here, but contemplating getting into a Nikon system for many of the same reasons as listed by the OP. ;)

Agree 100%...I am in the midst of selling my Canon gears...:)

We pay to get the best camera that suits us most. Contradictorily, the camera manufacturer does not reward anyone who is loyal to the whichever camera manufacturer...

There is no loyalty in this context...

Well, some people loyal to the brand, but the company not

Dunno lah. NPS has provided me fantastic service all the time.

EXCEPT for that one instance when they took 1.5 months to repair a SB-600 that dropped into the longkang. Maybe they didn't have spare parts.

I was actually tempted to switch my old system to Canon because the CMOS sensor on the Canon bodies creates a very nice silky like look which is subtly different from a typical Nikon image. (I like both but marginally prefer the look of Canon images out of the box).

However I think I may stay with Nikon because of one key reason, flash exposure. Nikon's flash system has always been spot on and that really makes or breaks an event shooting assignment for me. I appreciated Nikon's flash system even more when I was younger and was shooting events with a F90+SB-25 combi. Spot on exposures almost every time.

One question though, I heard from some other folk who are into photography that a lot of people who do birding tend to use Canon, because their Tele lens tend to be cheaper than Nikons? Since I don't bird, just wondering if that's true?

Glad to see I'm not the only one. I bought a Canon dSLR because I was utterly new and my friend could get a discount.

While Canon has its own pro, if I had known then what I know what, I guess I probably would have gone the Nikon way earlier.

Oh well, no use lamenting... just hope to get what I want soon. ;)
