hi, i'm a non-camera savvy person.

an overseas friend asked me to check Canon 70-200 f2.8L EF USM non IS and with IS for him.

I called Cathay Photo and Alan Photo, non IS around SGD$2400.

Are these the best places to buy it? He says he can get it for US$1180 so checking if Spore is cheaper.

if he is from the States, generally most stuff there is cheaper, infact some savy Singaporeans do buy from overseas to save some money, espeically big ticket items.

Look for joe aka Oracle

New set is about $2880 or $3K+ from shops

Recommend he ditch the box here and if possible bring a used camera ( w/o lens ) and bag to tie it back

Customs @ Tan Son Nhat ( Vietnam Airport ) are getting smarter nowadays..

Also, buy one roll of black gaffer tape to tape up the lens, to age it.

right now.. from BH photo .. the IS goes for USD$ 1,599.95 and the 24-70 goes for usd$ 1,129.95

not sure about the non-is

the US$1180 is cheaper, dont think you can get this kind of price ard here...
