Why i got interested into photography? as two of my closer friends pull me into this new hobby during my collage period.
I started with a entry old sony dslr camera with grip and a kit lens. i shot cosplay when i just started it.That period of time i was a gear freak, i bought a softbox with light stand and a high end speedlite from sony for the first time and without any much of knowledge of using flash, i rushed out and start doing my business after a month of photography study by my own.I start with my 18-55mm kit lens to earn money to fund my tamron 17-50mm f2.8 that was my first fast lens, slowly i got my 50mm f1.8 by using my sony voucher plus 50sgd to own it. So i slowly shoot rom after doing heavy research of what to do and lucky it turned out not bad for newbie.I did shot for free for a few clients to build up my portfolio and get my own experience without a teacher guiding me. so after that i slowly got my first tele-photo lens sigma 70-200mm f2.8 Ex DG HSM II for sony mount, i was very happy and so when i got into army after i work at firefly photography for awhile during weekends, i been a military photographer for my camp at selerang for the 2yrs..so i slowly gain my experience from myself and through meeting different friends and people around me trying different style of photography and shooting techniques all the way till what make me who i am today :) hope my long winded story intro inspired anyone here :) CHeer~!!

Last but not least i thank Benjamin the moderator for inviting me to join this chat group and also to meet you guys in the same industry :)

Testing distractions is good.

It has given me enough confident to accept on-site portrait jobs for a mining company and a software company dealing with their directors and senior managers.

Use downtime productively to upgrade skills. :)

that's the way.

Just imagine this scenario happened in McDonald;
Two photographers walk into McDonald, standing in the queue for ordering their meal, one telling another loudly,

"Hey, look at these photos, really CMI, see already got no appetite to eat, I use handphone can take better than this"

OMG, this really happen here.

I have worked in a company that put together advertising materials for McDonald.

The posters were the work of Photoshop composite. The lettuce was taken from one photo. The tomato another. The sesame seeds were chosen from the best seed and duplicate and rotate several times.

Even the best camera can't produce such an almost perfect result straight out from camera left alone a handphone. :)

that is how the way we work nowadays,

last time photographers set up a shot for half a day, test many Polaroid film on medium format or large format camera to check the results, then switch to film back loaded with transparency film and shoot the final shot.
is the real Kung Fu.

I agree with you. Not against to those who Manipulate images via photo tools. I always enjoy images thats natural looking as if it is not been PP. to me photographers are artist like painters than Engineers or Architects. ^_^

Yes, I'm not against image manipulating, it does serve certain purpose, for whatever reasons.

and I get what you mean, just like when you see a beautiful girl but knowing everything on her is not real, you would prefer a girl who is not perfect but authentic.
