why would it be damaging? firstly the pros are usually 1 man shows..so another free 2nd PG isn't gona break their ricebowl.

secondly, u get what u paid for. u paid for pros, then u'll get the relatively better assurance that things will go better. u get better skills, experience, backup equipment(2 bodies, 2 flash, portable HD backup, more lenses and better quality lenses, lots of mem cards and batts etc), better D.I and other intangibles.

It's a diff market... going free is one way of gaining experience for yourself and starting out as a free 2nd PG gives u that chance to learn and still have the main PG's pics if yours screw up.

So what about Asst Photographers who hope to make a living? Wouldn't his drive their salaries down further besides the many Foreign Talents around?

Well, I guess as long as the photographer makes his point clear that he wants to be 2nd photographer for free, I think it's fine. Photographers have to start somewhere, but it's the main photographer's responsiblity to give the 2nd photographer something at least.

I think TS is fair to all of us who is makes a living out of photography as he indicated to tt that he will only be 2nd photographer.

It's good that he made it clear.

these are all the effects of market forces. if someone wants to shoot for free, let him. are we going to impose protectionism on the market just so professionals can earn their keep? that's the whole concept of a free market isn't it?

it's not just for photographers, but for other professions as well, be it lawyers, doctors, dentists. if a doctor wants to treat people for free, are we to stop him just because other doctors need to make a living? in the end, market forces will put intense pressure on the market to correct itself.

If you have quality for your photos, for sure people will choose and pay for it....Are you afraid of that ?

Anyway I'm doing this for the 2nd photographer...not as the one who will be paid...
I'm sure you don't know what is an investment in time, I know how much the cost that I'm going to spend for this and I consider it as an investment for later day, when someone prepared for their field better and show up in the right time, I believe such that will not make the client upset for what they have paid and they will spread about my work by mouth with their spirit for being a satisfied client... mind that...
