FYI those of you who like me had outstanding negatives / film with them for developing....

you can walk across to Prime Camera and ask them about it.
They're helping Fotoguide by holding these prints etc. for them for customers.

$320 or thereabouts... i had one some time back, bought from John 3:16

Sigh. Hard to find Sigma stuff now. Just got e-quote reply from CP:

1) Tokina ATX Pro 28-70mm f2.8 Canon mount - discontinued

2) Tokina ATX Pro 28-80mm f2.8 Canon mount @ S$820.00

3) Sigma 28-70mm f2.8 Canon mount - not handling

4) Canon 28-70mm f2.8L - discontinued
Canon 24-70 mm f2.8L @ S$2,067.00

5) Sigma 15-30mm Canon mount - not handling

Sianz... seems like CP not handling lots of Sigma stuff. Where to get now? MS Color and AP carry Sigma?

Sigma ... try that John 3:16.

Personelly, I prefer the build quality of the Tokina lenses. When the Sigma AF 28-70/2.8 used to be about S$400 new (3-4 years ago?) it was a good buy. These days at a higher price personelly I'd look for alternatives .

But I can't seem to find Tokina for Canon except for CP. Also, I have not tried Tokina on Canon system... how is it compared to Sigma?

any idea how much is Sigma AF 28-70/2.8 currently?

From memory, the colours from Tokina ATX lenses seem to be higher contrast and warmer. Sigma lens colours are cooler. It's personal preference really.

In terms of build quality, the ATX lenses seem better built. can't comment on the autofocus ... been some years since I compared them.

Cathay is the sole agent for Tokina in Singapore

Yup the Tokina 28-70 discontinued due to the release of 28-80...

Thought they might have old stock so asked them anyway... :D

the Tokina 28-70 ATX Pro and Pro 2 versions are superior products. built like a tank, good feel. Only drawback from some users is the manual focussing ring, which in all honesty, is really a matter of getting use to. BUT the AF of this lens, when the focussing ring is on AF, is fast, and quiet.

you will find it hard to differentiate image sharpness and contrast with an L lens. and you can get it second hand for about $400, one-third price of a used L lens. Weight wise, same as the L. I will consider this as a "value buy".

it is discontinued however, so if you see some folks selling it for about $350-400, get it, you will not regret.

BUT a lot of talk about flare, so be vigilant when using. but for this price and quality, very little to complain about.

Yup I agree. Been trying to find that lens very hard but to no avail... no one seems to be off loading their Tokina 28-70... as I used this lens when I was a Nikon user, I loved it very much... so would like to get the counterpart for Canon too...

Due to 28-80? The 28-80 has been out for a while, isn't the reason why the 28-70 ATX 270 Pro II is not available due to the fact that it has been replaced by the 28-70 ATX 287 ProSV, which incidentally isn't available in singapore yet.
