hello all,

just wanting to seek the experience of fellow D80 users here. was surfing the web when i found a considerable handful of D80 users having problems with the battery meter. they claimed that their battery meters showed an empty battery indicator though the battery was full. more often than not it was with AF-S/HSM lenses and speedlight. users had to keep switching their cameras on and off to solve the problem (otherwise they couldn't shoot!).

their solution was to send back to nikon to replace the entire PCB! the report reflected that major parts were replaced!

so here's a heads-up for any facing a similar problem, so you'll know what to do. ;)

any units have the same problem here? mine seems fine so far, but i've yet to use and AF-S/HSM lenses. or are singaporean nikonians blessed? :D

hi, I am also facing the faulty batt indicator problem... my setup is D80 with 18-200vr len. At first I thought my batt got problem.. but I am getting similar problem for both my original batts. Came in to do a search a found that I not the only one with the problem.. I am thinking of sending my Camera to the service centre next week. Will keep you posted.

no such problem on D80 leh......

there is a similar problem with the d200 actually, when heavy lenses are used together with the grip

maybe becos of i shoot too much of continious RAW?:dunno: coz recently i try to use on JPEG format. nothing happen so far:sweat:

Nothing happens to mine at all. I shoot both formats almost indiscriminately

omg..... using heavy lens can result in such results??? is the D200 fated for use with only the consumer range lenses

looks like there is no choice anymore, everyone just go grab the D2xs - the only usable camera left

you must be having a heavy lens attached to it. you can try this: if you mount a heavy lens and just hold the camera at the vetical grip, it will cos the battery contact to be pulled away and the battery indicator will show battery low. and you will not be able to shoot vertical.

if you have the wt of the lens on your hand there will be no problem.

its due to the little gap between the camera and the mb200. i stick a layer of gaffer tape on the mb200 then screw it real tight to the body. the problem is solve. try it.

is that a similar experience?

luckily i do not have such a problem

HEY! me too, i also have a problem with the battery meter

what happened was, i fit a MB80 battery grip onto my D80 and shove in alkaline batteries.......the camera kept showing 'empty' but after switching on and off...it says 'full'

but with the use of the regular nikon batteries, the meter was perfectly allright

Coz u need to 'tell' the camera which battery u using. Check the menu for battery settings. ;)

(check user manual pg 100)

luckily i don't have any problem with my D80 unit, it's a local set. For those having problems, try to check if you have the lastest firmware or your maybe you have a defective battery.

Hey, I have got this problem with my D80 as well..
Even though I have fully charged my battery, but when I turn the camera on, it only shows 2 bars! And the low batt indicator comes out after taking about 100+ shots.

Dunno whether my battery is damaged cos I once brought it to New Zealand and the weather was freezing cold and I couldnt even get my camera to power up, even though it was fully charged the night before..

juz wanna check is ur batt a 3rd party piece? and have u tried changing ur batt to a orignial one?

Maybe depends on the type of battery used. The original nikon batt gives me no problem.

But the Eastgear variant can one min show you 70% when switched on but shows 95% 5 mins later....

My battery indicator has been going quite crazy recently, sometimes when I on it left 2 bars, but I just charged it only! But when I switched it off and on it after awhile, it goes back to full bar. My batteries are the originals that come with the body.
