I feel that the 10-17mm is quite vital leh. I mean, dont you guys think that the perspective of the 10mm side captures so much more? (comparing the 10-22 and 17-40 cause i still dunno which to buy)

of course it's good. but i have no money so i would rather not even consider :sweatsm:

Get the 10-22...it is
Just got mine recently...had a great time doing landscape shots and experimenting with creative shots......no regrets ;p

how is the tokina compared to the tamron 19-35?

Just got my 10-22 and it is a beauty - I am still keeping my 17-40L though. Starting to consider whether to let my 24 2.8 go ... somewhat redundant except for the F2.8.

cant be much better or worse. the tokina uses a special element, HLD glass. the tamron does not have any special elements. the tokina is better built by a mile. it makes my tamron 28-75 feel like a toy.

for around $160 2nd hand for both the tamron and tokina, you cant really go wrong. the guys on fred miranda call the tokina the 'plastic fantastic.' the tamron also has good reviews.

10-22
been using it more than a year.. the best WA len i think.. have a thought to upgrade to L len.. then try friend's 17-40L i think no diffrence in quality at wide 17, for me its not wide enough to play.., problem on 10-22 at 22mm still looks wide.. so cannot take portrait like the 17-40..
den decided to keep it 'n safe for 24-70L instead ;p
so if u looking for really2 wide len then 10-22 is a bargain, cheaper than L, wider, and same quality as L... but then again it's efs.. then it become another dilema ehhehe
bout other brand i havn't try.. but i think quiet some of them also only for 1.6cropx sens rite???
jes my 2cent -peace-

no mention of siggy 12-24? it's one of the best lens i've used. u can use this on 1.6x, 1.3x and even 1.0x!!

relatively cheap too. prices have went up that time when i asked. otherwise, 2nd hands go for around 650.

I personally feel that the 24-70mm range of lenses is not really "useful" focal range. At wide angle u cannot say that its wide on a 1.6x(FF is just besides the point). its 38.4mm equivalent and its not so useful in both landscape and outdoor groups shots. At the tele, its an 112mm equivalent again this tele is "not here not there".

I own before the Sigma 24-70 f2.8 DG Macro before. And in most of my shots, i just felt "inspirationally drain" as sometimes you cannot include every thing u want in the photo, and at other times u exclude a lot of things from the photo. OF course that will largely depend on your standing position and distance u are at. As hard as i tried, i couldnt get wide enough for most shots, i couldnt get tele enough to nail that far range "target". I ended up losing lotsa of oppotunities.

So now lok at my sig. Wide angle, tele. The in between i will go prime. cos i guess u could "walk" the zoom from 40-70.

Is there a way to fit the normal filter instead of the gelatin onto the lens? I like to use CPLs and cokins on WA...

Here comes one now.:)
Can't be more true than what you have said.
I own one myself , reason for it being its EFS proof( what I mean is that if one day EFS DSLR becomes history and FF rules, I wouldn't be owning something that obselete).
However, it has its drawback though. One being not able to used filter on it except gelatin ones. Also how I wish its 10- 24mm instead, cos on a 1.6xLF 12mm=19.2mm while 10mm=16mm. To me that difference is quite significant.
