Focusing

Guys!

I have an FM2 with the standard spilit focuing screen. Everything works well when I have the subject in the dead centre. If I want to use rule of thirds I can if I have enough dof. ie recompose

However, this becomes a problem if I am shooting a subjec that is close in or if I am shooting wide open. Any suggestions on how I should go about focusing.

Also Can I just remove the focusing screen - abit like the dslr? where you see and focus. I am ok with that cause my MF camera is also like that!

Many Thanks!

FM2 deploy 3 point focusing screen assuming it has not been changed. It presume it doesn't feature changing of focusing point like those featured in DSLR, sorry because I don't own one so couldn't give exact comment. Commonly is to focus and re-compose with your shot, not forgetting to maintain adequate DOF for your subject. Important is to work within the limit of the camera and you should be good with it ;) Enjoy shooting :D

Thanks! not to be rude but your post seems to have nothing to do with my query!

not sure if i'm getting your question right, but you can focus using the split screen and then recompose. it should stay in focus. alternatively, you can also use the the matte/fresnel area to focus

what lens are you using? if you lens has dof markings, you can use them to further aid your dof control and focusing.

remove focusing screen? you can change the focusing screen of the fm2

On recommendation from a friend took the camera to Mr Tay. The lens was not focusing well and i swapped my lens too to a type E very similar to the one in my dslr!

Will shoot another roll and see what i get!

Not trying to be rude like you mentioned. But you was asking about changing focusing point like DSLR in your initial post, however you edited your post :dunno:
Anyway it's ok and no need to reply to this post as I wouldn't bother to read on, thanks.
