Does that means if i ever install a 3rd party MF prism screen, i can't use in AF mode?

All you need is 2 kinds of tweezers which you probably have around the house, or get from any dollar store.

I replaced the D40x focusing screen myself, and removed and realigned several times too. Very simple process. a 2 minute job. You can ask to buy the part from Canon. But personally, I would go for a third party one with a manual focus prism built in.

However if you are not hands-on kind of person, and you want peace of mind, let CSC do it. But I doubt they will agree to install a 3rd party screen with MF prism in it.

No matter what focusing screen you use, AF and metering stays the same. You get the MF prism ON TOP of any features you already have.

Some specific models will be affected a little, but so far, Canon and Nikon one seems to be fine.

I thought some model's focusing screens are not replaceable by users?

maybe...im no expert in focusing screens or equipment measurebator. i've changed screens for 350D, 40D, and 5D..so i suppose most cameras in those ranges should be user replaceable.

Some models will be affected, like the newer Sony alphas, where the live view is obtained from a sensor in the pentamirror. So whatever shows up in the OVF will show up in the LV too.

Here are instructions to changing the focusing screen in different models. If not mentioned, you can search on the net. D3 series and 1D series screens are changeable too.

You can't really clean a focusing screen after any sort of physical contact with the surface. Bring it over to CSC and get it replaced or replace it manually. It's very easy.

Thank You all for ya feedbacks.

:)

i did trying once, using very soft brush (brush to clean up the stylus in vinyl player)
no guarantee, but it works for me, do it very carefully, focusing screen is easy to scratch/damaged
