Focusing on off-center subjects

I'd like to ask those who're experienced with RF shooting how you handle off-center subjects, meaning focusing on subjects outside the rangefinder patch?

Right now, what I do is focus with them in the middle first then re-compose and try to compensate for the shift in the focus plane (either by shifting the focus a bit or adjusting the aperture to compensate). This is new to me compared to shooting with a camera wherein focusing is done through the lens.

Am I doing this correctly, and is there a more convenient/accurate way of doing this? Thanks.

I am just curious why is there a need to refocus? I am assuming you're just recomposing your shots, then the subject you want to be sharp should still stay in focus, assuming you've remained stationary at the same spot.

It's easy. Just stop down to f3.5 and below you should get fairly sharp pictures all round.
If you use fast lenses? Which mag is ur VF? 0.58, 0.72 or 0.85? Stop down to be safe. My 2cent. :)

What I do is to focus, and then move my entire body sideways. If not, just bend forward or backwards to compensate. Worse case is to compensate using the lens as it largely depends on the lens and my familiarity with the lens.

The distance would be different.
