bro.. it will be more hassle free to buy a new sony flash to know it works out of the box then to save a few bits here and there trying to figure out if it works on ur a230. if it doesnt u will be stuck with a flash u may not be able to sell and u lose that $$ spent on the flash.

Got my 5400HS at less than $100/- and the power output is just a bit lower than 5600HS with everything else the same.
Worth it or not is really depend on one's usage......some may find the it a junk without TTL while some see it as another way of cheap off-shoe flash
There's a small group who actually cover event with it using DSLR.
But of course if cost is not a factor, F58AM is always a good buy

Just tried the 5200i again today and found that it works with TTL on the A200 and A700. I'm not sure how to describe it but the internal zoom of the flash also does zoom accordingly with the lens as it should.
Does anyone know if it is supposed to work or if I was just lucky today. The last few times I tried, i had to use fully manual to get it working. Don't want to be so suay that when I really need it then it doesn't work.

You mean it works fine when it is in A mode or S mode? And it doesnt under or overexpose the subject when using A mode or S mode? Then you're lucky.
Oh, what i mean is, you select TTL in the flash menu and then fire it when using A mode or S mode. If it is over expose or underexpose, than it didnt work. Try it at a subject which is at 4m away from you to see if it work in TTL. Dont use manual in flash setting for A or S mode.
58AM is the best. So do get it. You can get it at $490 for 1st hand.

I bought it at Sim Lim sq few months back. Can try and check again if it still the same price or increase. The shop is on the level 1. I forgotten the shop name but try to survey around that level. You're sure will get the cheapest.

small/big shop? Any mark or another sign that you can remember? So far as I know, average price for F58AM is 550$ (incl GST).
