Flash Shoe Convertor - Minolta to new ISO

That was Edlet, and he was corrected. He called the Sony stores "service centres" even though they are not.

and here it is:

You need to go to the Sony Service centers like Wisma, Bugis, IMM to get these converters.
Stocks are limited, so call before going.

The issue isn't whether it was sold in the retail shop or the service centre... it was basically the ridiculous wait... if I had waited 15-20 min and they told me that it was not in stock, I would be fine...

Anyway, let's see if they will give me a call next week when the stock comes in. They won't commit to which day the stocks will come in except to say next week... rather vague but let's see...

Yup. Because the concierge cannot possibly know every part, every accessory, for every sony product out there. Remember, the service center services *everything*.

Well, the concierge sits there and presses a button to give you a queue number... brilliant... he's the first point of contact, if anything, he should be answering queries and redirecting traffic... that's what a concierge does... to know the product and give directions... look at hotel concierges... if the array of goods and services are too great, then the chap should have catalog and be trained to browse through it... It's not acceptable to place someone out there and say he shouldn't know everything... then employ for what... anyone who can go to the service centre can press a button for a ticket...

Sir, you're a senior member.

though you're not obliged to, you have been long enough here and discussed much to be able to understand most cameras and how they work.

therefore, if a newbie comes up to you, looking up to you as a Senior Member, are you confident enough to answer every question they ask?

also, if you go up to a Hotel Concierge, do you expect them to know exactly which rooms are booked, how many rooms are available at the moment or whether so-and-so is staying at the hotel? the concierge will still direct you to the front desk.

I've been waiting for the hotshoe adapter for a very long time, i.e. many "next weeks". Been at least a month or 2 - although it was checking via Cathay.

I think the best bet is to buy online and ship here...

I finally got my hands on a ADP-MAA today, for a price of SGD$3400.

Fortunately, it came with some freebies, an Alpha 99, batteries and stuff.

Seriously, Sony should really ensure the supply of such an essential adapter if they decide to change the flash shoe.

I initially thought you missed out a decimal point somewhere... until I saw the 2nd line. LOL

oh... i forgot to mention... i, too have an ADP-MAA :bsmilie:

and i rarely use it :bsmilie:

Good one!

This is why I go straight to Sony... I think the demand has been quite strong... and I did call MS Color, Alan Photo, Cathay, even a few stores in Funan... all say they don't carry it... I did a walkabout in Funan and popped in and asked quite a few of the more serious photography shops... SLR Revolution, Click!, and a few more I cant' recall the shop name... all directed me to the service centre actually... and even Sony shop at Wisma Atria doesn't have ready stock... the salesperson there said they will trigger a restocking of the item... let's see if it comes before I leave for Cambodia again... I might have to borrow the ADP-MAA from one of you if it doesn't materialise by early June... I can't imaging shooting without an external flash that can bounce...

A hotel concierge won't know how many rooms are booked... but he will be able to direct you to the right place to ask for it... which the Sony concierge didn't... he didn't even asked what part I wanted... he merely tapped on the button and sent me to the spare parts counter... of course you pay peanuts you get monkeys applies here... the best concierge I have ever met in a hotel in Singapore? Conrad Centennial... I was looking for how to walk from the hotel to Marina Square... and I wasn't even a patron... the concierge walked me to the correct exit (which took a while) and pointed out the path and the door (visible from where we stood) across the roof walkway between the hotel and Marina Square... that's what a concierge does... tells you what you need to know and otherwise knows where to direct you to get the answer you're looking for...

Yup. but Sony Care and Sony Store are two separate entities. same issue:

if you pop in the Conrad Centennial and ask for the rooms available at the Marina Mandarin, do you think the guy will know? or will he direct you to his/her front desk to inquire if they still have a room for you

Hi TME,

i just bought a ADP-MAA hotshoe adaptor from the Sony centre at marina square last weekend. They still have one left when I purchased one. Not sure, if it is sold yet. My invoice says their number is 6338 9555. Maybe you can call them to check.

Understand your frustration bro, I had to keep tilting up the Nex 6 built-in flash to bounce and use a high ISO.
The built-in flash could not function as a wireless trigger (unlike the SLTs) to fire off an external Sony flash for bounce.

I have been calling Sony shops since Feb and no stocks till now. I almost wanted to sell the Nex 6 and get a Nex5R + HVL-F20S instead.
Anyway, its almost May, perhaps Kei's idea of getting the HVL-F20M could be a better idea. Hopefully, no delays and stock issues.

TME wants the MAA Adaptor so that he can use his older flashes on the NEX-6. so he doesn't need to buy an additional flash.

if he got the F20M, selling the F20AM would be troublesome, and he would need the ADP-AMA to use the new flash on his older Alphas

Yup, but the F20M and F20AM aren't too expensive.
I got mine F20AM $150 new.
If the F20M was available, I would have chosen it over the adapter (it works perfectly but doesn't look pretty sitting on top of the cam), and makes the cam hard to store in a small pouch.

Anyways, the last option is just to use a 3rd party flash with a standard hot shoe and do things the manual way.

Aiyoh... I called and emailed Alan Photo... both times tell me no stock... yesterday I walked into Alan Photo at SLS as I was there... I was curious about the video accessories and one of the salesman asked me if he could help me... on a whim I described the adaptor... and THEY HAD STOCK!!! I think they had 3 copies of it!!! Bought it for $35... was happily flashing away at home... for HDB flat ceiling height, the bounce works really well!

Happy now... well Sony Store doesn't have it still... service still a far cry from what I experienced with Fuji Xerox... when I told the Service Centre that I cannot find the laser cartridges, they did a call out to their authorized agents and came back to me with a list of their agents which had stock!

Dude, I pay only $35 for the adaptor lor... better than buying another flash... now my A900 and NEX-6 can share the flash... ha ha...
