Flash Overheat SB-900

spot metering with flash is not a good idea. Spot meter for ambient light may be needed some of the times, for all the time this may be not necessary.

yup.,. once you switch to spot metering, the flash automatically goes to traditional TTL mode, that means will meter for center weighted only... so if you subject is off center, it will try to light up the background... ie... full power..

what f stop u were using ? << F4 and F5>>
Direct or bounced << Bounce>>
why on iso 200 - if you using a flash the iso needs to be higher other wise the amount of power need from the flash is close to 3/4 of max - then this falls into what the friendly manual (you read it right ? << NO >> ) say about max number of flash in quick succession at full or near full power - which is if memory serves 20 to 30 before the flash over heats and shuts down. Most photog shoot from 800 to 1600 with flash some will shoot at 2500 to 3200 with flash.

If you know what you are doing, it is unlikely you will be shooting a shot every 15 secs for more than 3 frames to 5 frames there are few situation where you need to shoot a shot every 15 sec for ever.
