from the manual of 10D

• With TTL and A-TTL autoflash Speedlites (EZ, E, EG, ML, and TL series), the flash will not fire in the TTL or A-TTL autoflash mode. If the Speedlite has a manual mode, use the manual mode instead.

yes, manual mode means you do the flash metering yourself :D

Same as Corkdood, wants to get a flash for my 300D.
Went to TCW yesterday and asked for 2nd hand Sigma EF 500DG Super. But they told me now there's a new model called Sigma E-TTL 500DG Super, which is suppose to be imporved version of EF... Is it true? If yes, anyone knows the difference between these 2 models?

Thanks guys!

As my indoor photographs with my 300D are consistently dark and underexposed I have come to the conclusion that I need an external flash. The choice seems to be between the 440 and 550 ex flashes. From what I've read the 440 doesn't give any control to the user whereas the 550 has lots of options. However given that I am still very much a novice and only using the preset modes on the camera - portrait, landscape etc would I be better off with the simplicity of the 440ex?
The last thing I want to happen is to buy the 440 and find that my indoor photographs are still dark and underexposed? My main interest lies in portraits and I am investing in a 50mm 1.8 lens for the purpose. Which flash will suit my needs best?

Here is my suggestion, shoot a plain color flat surface with the exposure the camera suggest. than check the histogram. If under, next time just compensate.

Thats what i do for my D60. 1 time calibration, problem solved. If I am not wrong, most if not all digital camera are program for up to 1 stop under.

Been out of Sigma releases on flashes ever since I got my own EF500 DG Super. Anyway, can always check out Sigma's website for a quick check.

Mmmh.. Couldn't find anything from the sigma website :(
Now I'm really confused, will go MS Color later to check it out.
Thanks Ah Pao for the reply.
