Flash and ActiveX buttons

Hi Webmaster & moderators,

I'm a great fan of clubsnap & often visit your site. Recently due a microsoft update patch, all flash & activex controls will require user to initiate. As a result users will need to click twice to activate any nav buttons that are done in flash. I've done some research on this & had found a possible solution to this. I would like to share with you so that neccessary updates can be done to do away with the double clicking. More info can be found at:

Hope it helps

Hi Michael,

As far as I know, our site (in particular, the Forums) does not utilise any Flash-based or ActiveX-based buttons, menus or links (other than some SWF banner ads).

This is also the very first time that we hear of this "issue". Please provide some screenshots to illustrate what/where you are encountering the need to double-click to activate a button.

Thanks Darren for responding. The following is a screen shot of where the issue can be located. Basically the recent Microsoft updates caused IE to require user to click on the swf in order to activate the flash. As the entire piece (as shown in the screen grab) is done in flash. It requires IE user to click on the button twice (1st click to activate, 2nd click to go to desired link) It is frustrating to do that as usually I'll click once & was waiting for the browser to bring me to the page I need to go... nothing happens.. then I got to click the same button again to get to the page. This happens everytime regardless of how many time you've clicked to activate the controls.

I've sent an email to webmaster@clubsnap.org with the sample files & java script to work around this issue. Hope it helps. :)

Ah. That's a better indication of where you are having problems.

Frankly speaking you are the first (and only ... to my knowledge) that has brought this up.

I have just tried with IE and I don't have the double-click to activate issue and since I normally use Firefox for 99.999% of my external web surfing so never knew that this was a problem (it still may not be a problem just a quirk of IE/Flash/ActiveX).

Will escalate to sys-admin and see if we can change but please be aware that there are other more pressing things we are worrying about right now (like our impending server move this weekend).

In the meantime, we strongly strongly urge you to use Firefox ;p:D - its faster, more secure and overall sexier than IE ;).

i have the same problem. insignificant, but comes back everytime you are at the page, when I click the grey forum button, nothing happen, then click again before anything happen. Initially I thought the page is loading slow, but confirmed definitely its not. Let me know if you need to know any of my browser setting. Basically, I just have IE with no special tweaking or change to the setup.

There is a solution on user's end but it is not recomended. (Might cause problem to operating system). It is really up to website administrator to do something about it. I've since updated all the websites under my care. It is a solution tha takes no more that 10 mins to implement. :D

why should I do any change to my computer when I only experience this on 1 website? But it really is annoying.

No you should not.... actually any website that has flash content or flash buttons will have this issue. Unless the web administrator do something about it.
