Fish photography thread..

...and was wondering how can I get those picture TS posted that are so sharp? anyone can advise?...

There's many ways to take sharp photo. One way is via 'Photoshop'. Use the software to tune a not so good photo to a good photo, and turn a great photo to a speechless one. Another way is via 'sharp lens' + 'high F stop' + 'Flash' + 'high shutter speed'. Should U be keen to improve your Aquarium Photography, contact this guy "amiidae" from www.arofanatics.com. His photo is astonishing! I did learn a few tricks from him.

the 1st thing he will tell u is:

1. u need wireless flash
2. u need macro lens

actually he have some posts in CS.

My new addition last evening.

Short-bodied Florida Gar (Lepisosteus platyrhincus):

water was slightly cloudy n pic taken under low lighting so didnt turn out well.

a quick trial with remote flash after i got my ST-E2. pics taken with 1 x 430EX II. will grab another set of 430EX II later today.

Arapaima gigas:

this is the best i can get with my lousy skill with fish in green water + glass full of algae. n very low light. only manage to find a small spot without algae.

Sigh, I miss CF, tomcat
My Paratilapia bleekeri passed away ~6months ago, haven't found any other lfs with such variety

I've always wanted to do this but hated the setup
Strobist info:
2x SB-R200 clipped to white umbrella on a stand, to the front and right 45°
1x SB-R200 to the left wall of tank, fired through 1.5cm thick fish filter wool (had to make do, an apt diffuser don't ya think?)
Went for dramatic lighting ... because I hadn't cleaned the streaks off the glass and the background + rocks are covered in algae

u can try NKS or C328. they may have.

The wifey has been eyeing on getting rid of the tank (4x2.5x2 cabinet) which is rather big
So no more new acquisitions ;p
For the past 2 or so years already
Current inhabitants - 3 rainbows and a texan

I missed shooting at CF... it's a pity that Jason sold away the business. He is a true cichlid, oddball and monster fish enthuiaist and would spare no expense to bring in those fishes that he likes.

but most fish price drops drastically after he bring in the 1st pair/specimen.

That's just market forces at work... economy of scale.
Nobody like to be the first to introduce a new species into Singapore but Jason did so because of his personal interest. The first batch is usually small in numbers just to satisfy himself and to test the market and would usually cost more because of the smaller nos. ordered.

If the fish is found to be in good demand, he would import more in the next batch and could therefore bring down the price. Other lfs that didn't want to take the risk would quickly hop in and order for themselves since CF has already tested the market for them.
