Hi All

Me also first touch with DSLR ;) ...also first post, and the following link is one of the first shots i have taken with my newly accuired 450D at my first dog at my first house.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/27293556@N06/2544443837/

Subject is under shade so is backlit thus flash was used, abit harsh though.

i think i have taken more than 20 shots b4 picking out the best one....just can't seem to take those shots i see most pros here do!

i welcome comments on how to improve on taking better pictures. Thanks!

It seems fine for the camera you're using. If you want professional results, you need to learn about photography first and have professional equipment.

Try all the settings and don't be afraid to make mistakes. You'll learn a lot.

wow, how did you get that angle? prone on the floor?

yea, i agree, the flash is kinda harsh. to remedy that, you could use a diffuser cast softer light. either pick one off a camera shop for less than $15 or make your own. lots of online literature on DIY pop-up flash diffusers on google ;)

or... you could pick another location for the shoot with natural, softer lighting, assuming your pet is a good doggy who will behave :bsmilie:

bousozoku - Yup, me still very new and beginning to learn photography and that is part of the reason why i posted the picture hoping for some pointers on how to improve it. :) Somehow i find that shot lacks the "wow" factor.

Daedalus Trent - I dug a MG trench for that shot. Kidding, subject was on a bench so it wasn't too difficult. I was also thinking of diffuser too, but most probably after i have gotten an external flash. Will definitely try out more locations once i have the chance to play with my DSLR again. That day just happen to be trying out my new 450D outside my house :D

I appreciate both your comments.

ahh, on a bench. How dumb of me

hope to see more of yr shots! :)

Well, learning post processing in good software is also part of the digital camera life.

The book Adobe Photoshop for Photographers is quite good at explaining how to do more with the photos you have. The author, Martin Evening, also writes a monthly Q&A column in What Digital Camera.

Of course, you can use other software but it's difficult to find something else that covers so much. There is even a cheaper version for those who can't afford the full version.
