First attempt with the LX3

Pse. read up the various metering mode in your manual.

Each mode have it's purpose.

Here's something I tried today after adjusting some of the settings like white balance, contrast, etc.

ISO 80
f/2
shutter speed 1/8
Tungsten white balance. (Due to the lighting in Sakae)
+1 EV
Centre_weighted metering

ahhh.. now that's better.

:D

im just going to comment on the white balance. its good enough already, in this pic. but do feel free to explore the custom white balance setting. i feel its a more accurate reading as it takes on the actual scene rather than preset settings. but anyway, this is good enough. just my 2c worth...

Yea I will try to play around with more settings to see which one suits the ambience. Thanks! (:

logicet, you can try increasing the ISO (or put it on intelligent ISO) so as to increase shutter speed and reduce chances of handshake that will cause blur in your images + rmb to use the macro mode for AF!

Yea its done with macro focus. I didn't want the ISO to be too high (<200) cause I don't want noise in the photo so I never use the function of intelligent ISO.

using intelligent ISO allows the system to choose a suitable ISO which is limited by manual selection. eg the intelligent ISO could set it as ISO 120 but manually we could only choose 100 and the next level 200.

Choose a right WB before you shot, under indoor light can be tricky. Add more punch to your color setting, if can try to use fill flash. Diffuser the flash or lower the EV on flash setting. Hope is ok for me to edit your photo.

Yea no worries. I wish to capture more of the actual scene itself which is a slightly yellow tinge.

The more you take, the better you will get and learn from previous shooting. =)

Sorry to hijack you thread.
I have the exact same problem as you and noob at changing all the settings.
Been using IA mode for all my shots but my pics are all darker than the actual subject.

Can anyone provide me some optimal settings to begin with?

Np, try increasing your exposure. I am using +1 2/3 eV but sometimes it still won't achieve what you need.

Adjust your white balance too. The AWB isn't very accurate.

You can also try out the different modes.

Try increasing your aperture and decreasing your shutter speed to allow more light to enter. However, this might affect the sharpness of your image and might be blurry.

My last resort is to increase ISO.

or you can use Lightroom to do post-processing.
it does it pretty good job (IMHO) of correcting white balance and exposure problems for LX3 taken images.
That said, my exposure is usually set +1/3 to 2/3 because otherwise the image turns out rather dark on my PC monitor

Suggest you change to Center-weighted metering.

Thank you all for the wonderful suggestions.
I'll try and see if things get better!
