First attempt at IR Photography

Hi everyone, pardon my amateurish attempt at IR photography. I have not been able to achieve much yet. Hope that i will get some valuable c&c so that i can improve. Thanks

That looks underexposed, what settings did you use? (Aperture and shutter settings?)
What was the weather like?
If you are using aperture piority, do remember to cover the viewfinder and also to add exposure compensation.
Also to keep the sun behind u.

Any idea why there is a blue spot there?

Possibly Flare or post-processing issue.
Is the TS shooting in the direction of the sun? :think:

i was using Aperture priority at f14 i think, the shutter i left it to the camera to decide as i was not too sure what to set it to. I will remember your advice for my next attempt which would be tomorrow if i can find the time before my sunflowers dies =)
The sun was out but behind the building. I thought of catching some of the rays.

i managed to PS up one better one. at least this time the sky is blue :embrass:
sorry but i jus got the lens so alot of the skills and techniques required not picked up yet :embrass:

I think overall it is a good attempt.
Next time, try aperture mode f8, exposure compensation of +0.7 to +1.0, cover the viewfinder and shoot in opposite direction of the sun. Maybe that should help.

Don't go above F8.
Use a lens hood.
Avoid shooting at and close to noon. This is bcos the sun will be above ur subject of interest and most of the IR will be reflected upwards. This is also one of the reason to keep the sun behind u. So that most of the IR will shine onto ur subject and gets reflected into the lens.

Thanks Vortex! I use Aperture priority because i was not sure how to estimate the shutter speed haha. I will start experimenting with shutter speed when i get better
dun want u all to suffer eye damage too much looking at my attempts heehee
